Want to add another 4 x 4 flood and drain table to the grow room.
Currently have one with a 40 gal res.
My ? is it better to have two 40 gal res's or one 80 gal res?

not that it's necessarily better, but i'd go with one res.
simply because of the need for only 1 pump, 1 timer, and only 1 res to change.
as opposed to two of everything.

IMO, it would depend on if you're trying to do a perpetual cycle, or if they're all growing and. Being harvested at the same time.
If you want to be able to do two independant cycles, do the dual-rez thing. If not, just use one...

This is a good point.
Keep the ideals coming.
Two would be cheaper than building one large one.
Also if contams set in two would not affect both tray's.

If you have 2 different reservoirs then you can do 2 different strains. One res would pretty much limit you to the one.

The reason I stated and the reason Hawk stated are why in working on getting two seperate rez's in our flower room.
Con: rez changes will take twice as long, because you gotta measure out nutes twice...

Two reservoirs would be better. Not just for the fact that you can grow two strains but if there is a problem with one of them or some kind of accident the whole crop won't pay for it. One day your gone and a pump gives out or a timer goes bad at least you still have half the crop left.
Then there is the problem if there is only one res the plant are going to use both water and nutes faster then if it were just one which is going to make for much bigger swings in the nutrient and ph levels which means your going to be adjusting the levels twice as often.
