Soiless mediums
    #757006 - 11/12/14 05:52 PM (9 years, 4 months ago)

Anyone grow using a soiless medium? If so, what kind of mix do you feel performs the best? I've heard a straight up 1:1 ratio of perlite to vermiculite is supposed to be pretty good. How does it compare to regular soil and coco? Do you treat it more like coco or soil?

I grow in about 80/20 coco/perlite. Ive had a lot more success with this than I ever did with soil, not to mention it finally eliminated my fungus gnat problem. I also have a couple plants in 100% coco and cant really tell a difference between them and the ones growing next to them in the 80/20.

Ive never tried growing in verm, Ive only used it for shrooms but I have a ton of it so that does sound intriguing...

I've seen some impressive results from just a 50/50 verm perlite mix. I feel like it'd be good because it drains and dries quickly, and is inert so nutrients can be completely manipulated. Seems like a recipe for success to me but I'd like to hear others' inputs.

I've used coco straight with great results.
Done hempy with three to one perlite to verm.  Now I'm using straight perlite, and see no difference.
I run a basic drain to waste feeding plan.  Currently using flora series.

I have never had luck with soil.

Coco coir, straight up. 6.0-6.2 pH 20% run off and you'll have no problems.

I just made a post on why coco is far superior to peat, if interested you can check my recent posts.

Clay balls and flood and drain. Complete control over nutrients, watering and air. One thing people forget about flood and drain is that the air gets pushed out from between the clay balls (I say that cause there are several brands. The real name is leca.) and every time the water goes back to the reservoir it draws new air to the roots.

Well I'll be using f&d for flowering plants but have decided to go with coco for my mothers based on this thread. Not worth it to set up another system just for mothers IMO.

Speaking of growing in coco, do any coco users here use beneficials bacteria or mycorrhizae? I'm looking at great white by plant success and it looks pretty good.

I use Great White and yes it works great. Buy the small one though, I bought the big one and I doubt I'll ever use even half of it.

Mothers in coco, flowering in hydro. How do you intend to veg the clones before you flower them. There are very few strains that can yield when flowered just as they root. I have seen one strain in my life that can be grown right from rooting and yields well slammed together and that's cause it doesn't branch.

as far as I know I'm the only one who has bred for this kind of growing.

With most other strains you end up with this when flowered from rooting.

I suggest you go all coco cause using two methods of growing for one small garden really isn't to well thought out.

Ok, here goes this story again.

I had a bunch of GDP that had a few days left to finish and I don't like things unless they are perfect so I moved em to the new location to finish up.

Well the plastic blows off of the back window and I got a trucker honking at me laughing his ass off. I pull over into a parking lot and fix the window. I finish fixing it and sit down to drive away and realize that I'm in a California Highway Patrol parking lot. I pulled out and managed to make it safe. I guess you know that cause I'm here to write this. :facepalm3:

Well I was mainly just planning on growing your strains meant for the fast turn around. Also I was gonna use your method for taking cuttings so I could take larger ones and if need be veg them for a week or two in the hydro under the HPS. I know it's not ideal but for my needs I think it'll work out just fine

EDIT: and honestly I'd be happy with that second picture

You know I wasn't sure what you were doing as far as the style of plant. Many small ones or a few big ones.

I also thought you were starting now. Did you already get some of my seeds?

Ya, it's super quick indoors 6.5-7weeks. Kish is said to finish in 40-42days I think.
