Question about mothers.

So, once I start growing, I'd like to establish a mother plant that I can get clones from for a while.

So, in order to make a mother...I need to grow a plant normally through its veg stage, and just never switch the lights to 12/12, right?

Anything special I have to do with the nutes? Different than I would do with a normal plant in veg?

Do I have to keep feeding it, or, will it eventually be established enough to just grow on its own?

Since I'm using soil...(FF Ocean Forest, mixed with perilite) is there anything specific I need to worry about? People talk about "compaction" over time...and since a mother always stays in the same soil, will the be a problem?

How many weeks should I let the mother bush out after taking clones?

Also, how can I keep the plant low, but bushy? I don't want it to get 8 feet tall in my closet, but I do want a lot of branches.

Just remember that a mother that came from a cutting will give weaker buds. Because its a clone of a clone... LOL do u get what Im saying? Not sure if I made sense with my choice of words. A mother should come from a select seed(The biggest/strongest seedling)

Yeah, you're way off with that. A clone will create a genetic duplicate once matured. In other words, the same plant. Cannabis doesn't have the same gene degradation issues as mushrooms.

I could be wrong but this is what a few very very experienced growers told me. Think about it though it kind of makes sense. They also said that no respectable seed banks would do that. He said that they get a bunch of seeds grow them, then pick the best ones with the traits they like. Then they flower a cutting from all the possible mothers to sex them. Then they eliminate all the inferior ones. Maybe someone should write an e-mail to DNA Genetics or some other peeps to ask how they do it and why? Maybe if u hint u are interested in making a purchase they'll actually answer.  :confused: I was just tryin to help....

It's bullshit, taking a clone from a mom and using it to produce another mom for cuttings will not impact bud production whatsoever.

I heard it DOESN'T break down over time, because you're not actually cloning the cells, you're taking a cutting. "Cloning", technically shouldn't be the right term, right?

I believe I learned that here.

Correct me if I'm wrong. I know a lot less than you guys.
