Jalapeno & Banana Peppers in Coco Coir
    #392051 - 03/29/10 11:44 AM (13 years, 11 months ago)

My first try at peppers. I'm going to start feeding them soon and will eventually transplant them outside. What do you guys think?

Here are some of my jalapenos from last year. They were young here but when I put them outside I got some fuckin huge peppers. They were delicious.

Awesome, I've been thinking about starting an indoor garden space for cultivating peppers this coming fall/winter. Maybe even a couple other veggies so I have fresh stuff during the off season.

How am I doing? 12/12 from seed and thinking about moving them outside soon.

(Sorry about the HPS)

This was 34 days ago for reference, I don't take many pics of these.

Also, do you guys think I can take them all the way in those 5x5" pots?

We've got action!

Only nutes they get are runoff from my trays via a turkey baster. I shoot for a baseline of 500ppm, so if the runoff is 1000ppm one day they get PH'd water the next, etc. Not very scientific at all with these just feeling them out.

I'll never drain to waste again.

For the banana peppers it was about 2 months of 12/12 from seed until flowers started turning into peppers. The jalapenos took a couple weeks longer. Seems like each 5" x 5" x 5" pot should yield 25-40 peppers so you will have a bumper crop with the topsy turvy.

Going to start flushing these soon. Should end up with about 20 banana peppers and 30 jalapenos from two plants of each. They were 12/12 from seed and in the 5" x 5" pots so not bad considering.

If you already have lumens hitting the floor they are worth growing indoors.

very cool dude. I know you didn't get many responses on this thread but I'll have you know I read every update very thoroughly. I've always been fascinated by the idea of growing peppers hydroponically, this was a great job and I'm sure I'll be picking your brain in the near future

Thanks HB. I was surprised at how few grow logs or even pictures are on the net for hydro peppers, especially indoor ones. I guess this is more of a pictorial than anything but I'm glad someone got use out of it.

You know I forgot to mention the odor in the tent of peppers + pot is unlike either peppers or pot. You can still get good whiffs of each up close but the combined smell is really pleasant and almost makes me want to try unplugging the carbon filter. I was making small talk with a lady at the local nursery and she said peppers are notorious for imparting their flavor in other cultivars grown within close proximity. Well I'm not saying I don't believe her but it hasn't imparted any scent or flavor in my pot yet IMO, just masks a lot of the reek.

Also forgot to mention there were originally 4x jalapeno and 4x banana peppers and I moved two of each outside in May. Well the Seattle-Tacoma area hasn't hit 75 degrees in ~280 days and May and June had some of the darkest days in recorded history for their respective months. Needless to say they all failed hard and I had to cut them down a few days ago.
