possible PH problems in the Future. Some advice please.
    #244702 - 06/30/09 07:20 PM (8 years, 25 days ago)

I began my first grow about 11 days ago.

I am using 3 42 watt CFL's and Miracle Grow Moisture Control.

I got a PH tester for soil and water... the only one I could find were "rapid test" for $1.  Anyway my soil measured at 7ph and water at 8ph... Does this sound normal because I heard MGMC was around 5-6ph and water around 7ph.

If the PH was correct is this going to be a problem in the future?  Should I just look for a better PH tester?  Maybe use distilled water instead? Thanks

Distilled water is great if you can easily obtain it, but not necessary.  pH for an indoor soil grow that's between 6.5 - 7.5 should not cause any problems unless you are growing a particularly sensitive strain.  When my soil pH seems a little high, I sometimes run an extra pot of coffee to add to the water when watering my plants.

Good idea with the pot of coffee, heard its great for plants all around..

Using it to change PH now thats' a cheap way to do it (unless you feed them high dollar coffee lol)

I would invest in a good PH meter if you are serious about this.. I mean would you drive blind folded? I think not..

A PH meter is like removing that blind fold.. as PH plays a crucial role in nutrient uptake..

Distilled I am not so sure about.. I have read that it works, and I have read that plants need chlorine, but if your waters hard or high in other minerals it might be better with distilled or try filtered water.
