 Growing the Growery - Your Opinions Wanted!

Alright people, let's brainstorm  . The competition out there for cannabis related websites is fierce, but with cannabis having hit the mainstream, there's no reason that the Growery can't do better in attracting new members and being a better informational resource for the world. With that in mind, let's hear your ideas about what we can do to help make that a reality. I'm going to scrape together a brief survey here, but most importantly, please take a moment to post your thoughts in detail so we can get a better idea of what y'all think could work here. What options/features do other cannabis websites provide that you would like to see here? What can we do differently or better than other websites? What are we doing poorly? Where can we most improve and what do you think are good ways to go about it?
I want to see this place grow, and I want the community members to have a voice in how that happens, so speak up!

I like the site and most of the people that post, but as of late we've attracted mostly ass hats.
A random idea...
My chick spends a lot of time going to random sites because theres a chance to win something. Im not sure how you would advertise, but you could offer monthly prizes for signing up.
Also, to make this site seem more welcoming you need to ban po, stoneth, sham87, deadkdnys, draw, koop, that llama kid, magash, agmotes, pizzeria, poor boy, volcom, and geokkills.
Get rid of those guys and you will not only have a larger crowd, you will also have a shit ton of vendors.

I find the lack of information, disturbing.
Dont get me wrong, the trusted cultivators know their stuff, but im not seeing a step by step guide and everything necessary to fully grow, bysides making a thread for information when the thought comes, and ive heard people say use the search bar but how can I search for stuff that I dont even know exists.
Maybe im not seeing it somewhere, but I wish it was a direct line to everything, instead of resorting to the smoke lounge for basic talk, or stalking peoples journals.
Then the site should fully encourage for every member to reply back with their grow for the sites database, not just making it optional, but fully recommended, causing more posts, questions, and activity.

The very first thing I would do is amalgamate the forums. At least 50% should be cut/combined. That alone will make the site appear to be more active. In cultivation for example, there is no reason to have the 3 sub-forums. Put them all in one and perhaps have an option to tag the thread as one of those categories.

This is an interesting idea. I tend to agree that the three sub-forums in Cult are dilutive and relatively obscure. Offering the ability to tag cult threads with Indoor Soil/Indoor Hydro/Outdoor, while keeping them consolidated in the same main forum display makes a whole lot of sense. I also tend to feel that the Grow Room Design forum should probably be consolidated into the Cult forum. Possibly even Doctor's Diagnosis being scrapped and rolled into the main Cult forum as well?

What do you think makes the shroomery so popular?
I'm fairly certain that marijuana is the more popular drug.
I'd talk to the mighty ythan for some insight; ask how he promoted the site in the beginning and follow suit. I'd maybe consider putting up more growery ads on the shroomery, too.
Maybe the web is saturated with Cannabis sites?

I think shroomery has alot of younger kids and frankly we don't need em. Aswell yall notice how these fantasy and role playing sites r popular. Well I think shroomery is more attractive to them in the sense that the naive psychonauts are captivated.by the extravagant story telling and then u have the liars who wanna tell how big their e-balls and how they eat 7 grams on the regular. Then u have those chill people who are truly interested in shrooms and the company and social setting. Cannabis is more cut and dry. No fantasy story telling. No psychic or alien or reptilian humanoids. Just us assholes telling people how to grow clip and extract a weed, while high as shit....cheers

I think it's more about the shroomery being older and set up in a time when finding good info on psycadelics was rare and a community that was generally nice and generous even more hard to find... well at east that's what it was for me it seems like the growery is in a great position to gain more active members there just needs to be some restructuring of the cultivation forum and a lot more submission from members
I have just had to re learn alot of things and learn all adout indoor growing as a newcomer to the site I had a few ideas that I would have loved to see and would have really helped me on my journey
the cultivation section needs some love...
1. we need a frequently used terminology sticky
2. More Teks and an incentive to write them up whether it's for starting seed or diy growing apparatuses just a pictorial of the way you do things would make a world of difference to a noob
3. there is a great nutes troubleshooter sticky and more FAQ stickies would be great
when I first checked this place out I was hoping for a shroomery just for herb and there are some similarities but more room to build I would like to see more contests promotions giveaways or just action in the marketplace...
most of this falls on the community to do but combining and displaying them is all up to the administration and if there are more submissions displayed it should motivate us to make more write ups I know I'm not the only one who likes to tinker with shit when they are stoned just take some pics and explain your idea I know Id watch to see if it works...
Personally I will do a recap after my first grow log is done with all the things I wish I knew before I started and right now I'm doing a give away in the lot and not 1 person has requested any that's just weird...

Shroomery has shit loads of different subjects. Here it's pretty much, weed, how to grow weed, what weed looks like, when was the last time you smoked weed, how do we legalize weed.
When you smoke weed, you're like, duuuuude. And that is about it.
When you eat shrooms, smoke salvia, dmt, drop acid, take mescaline or be like these young dudes fucking with RC's, just face it, you're gonna have a lot more to talk about.
Plus there's that powder drug factor, meth, coke, crystal all that shit. That's an element that I dont want anything to do with but it adds convo. Then they have conspiracies, outdoors, the garden...odd. all kinds of shit. Quite frankly that's why its a cluster. Busy yes, but a clusterfuck, yes.
Here its just weed. And that in my mind, is a good thing. Do you really want people talking about getting Az-463det-9675-dzp and doing a bioassy like on the shroomery?
I kind of like it quiet here. Everything anyone needs to know is right here.

It is important to keep growery stoner friendly.
Shroomery is drugs.
Let this be the forum for your average joe would want to visit.
Think about all the people newly introduced to weed. Its probably only weed for them. No drugs, now capture them in all the awe and glory weed has. The sitefeels original, distinct from other forum layouts. Its comfy.
I think this site could benifit from a revamped forum topics suited to fit any need of any variety stoner.
So far, there isn't much diversity.
What do thes other pot sites offer you cannot?
Offer that.
People will come whete people want to go.
What makes these other sites more of the go to?
Growery has the potential to be first hit in every "pot" google search.

I don't know about you guys but I find the design of the site a bit dated. By design I mean the navigation. Other sites like ICMAG or Grasscity have inviting design, it's fresh and modern, our aesthetic is dated man.
How about making new members post a certain number of relevant threads before allowing them access to TSL?
Do we really need the Randomn link? I clicked it and it sent me to a random 4 year old thread, dafuq
Is there a way we can combine the User List and Who's Online tabs into one?
Another suggestion would be to put the search bar somewhere less hidden. Most users read the screen left to right so it would be intuitive to have the search bar somewhere on the left side? Lower than the top right corner.

Spread flyers about the site at clubs and crap when you go out. I made some homemade flyers for Gorilla seeds and spread those at the clubs I sell buds to and it apparently worked. Gorilla got a hold of me and gave me $600 worth of seeds twice.
The problem is that we advertise as a growers site and not a smokers site. The Growery is not a growers site I hate to say cause if you are a experienced grower you're not gonna learn a ton here.

Bring user created forums into play, they will increase activity, and it should be a perk for supporters anyways, its a main reason I would buy one, besides the namecolors.

Interesting points. 
I do want to make an effort to build content so that we can more reliably consider ourselves at least an intro-grower site in addition to a smoker's lounge type of joint. The flyers aren't a bad idea, easy enough to implement for sure. Still working to get together some prize incentives for a Grow the Growery project, which if it goes well could become a regular thing (or something similar to it) that could be promoted on the flyers since most people love free stuff.

How is UC the last thing this website needs? There are people that are addicted to some UC in shroomery, posting all day n night. This forum needs active posters like that, there are only a handful of daily posters and most of them are trusted cultivators.

I think the site is generally great, but Id like to see some more growers being able to distinguish themselves a bit more, some of these people are prize worthy speciemens, fantastic growers and Ive been lucky to meet some of them already, they just gave me everything, so I think the growery could like hold contests and promote its existence, with tshirts, pins etc, ad more for themselves and if possible allow some members to show more of themselves. The fear of the cops is a negative vibe it would be cool to see people on shows, in concerts etc having these tshirts on for example...a real life alternative.

RRv2 is a rarity.
AC gained popularity via runoff from RRv2.
Everything went right, the forum was made at just the right time, people just showed up and started posting, I promoted it, etc...
This place just simply does not have the traffic to support something like that happening.
Hell, I'm not even sure how it jumped right up to being the third most posted in forum on the shroomery. I'm the main moderator of the forum and have put a lot of time and effort into the place, but even I wasn't expecting that.
You have to have a long-term, highly active, & large userbase for something like that to even be a possibility, and even then more often than not they still will fail.
This site is lightyears away from being able to support a UC section, if it even ever will be able to. You haven't been around for long, you don't even know of the UC section pre-RRv2, it was pretty dead. What happened was basically a fluke.
I love the idea of user-moderated and created forums, but they're unrealistic for this place, at least in its present state.

I realize this post is 98 days old, so sorry to revive a dead post, but I'm sure you moderators are always accepting input right?
I just have a couple suggestions. Get more sponsors, do networking with seed bank websites and trade links with them. Example, I found out about shroomery because when I was shopping for spore prints I always saw shroomery links and shroomery ads. But I rarely see a growery ad. Also I see a lot of the same shroomery sponsor ads here on growery, which is fine, but I think there should be more cannabis related ads than shroom related.
One more suggestion. Shroomery has a marketplace forum for trading spore prints and whatnot. Why not add a marketplace forum on here for trading seeds?
Other than that, I like the site. Before I became a growery user, I was on rollitup.org and they have a lot of users so maybe check them out for inspirations and ideas.

Oh yeah one more suggestion. Search engine optimization. Shroomery comes up on my shroom-related google searches every time. Growery not as much. I have a personal friend who makes a living doing SEO for companies' websites so PM me if you need someone to do that. He is very good at what he does. He also knows the cannabis industry well. Google is your friend

Idk if advertising growery on shroomery is worth it tho. Theres already a button on the menu bar leading to growery. Im pretty sure every shroomery user has seen it.
What about merchandise? Free stickers, purchasable apparel, stuff like that. That would raise awareness for sure. I'd slap a sticker on my truck and rock it.

You should try the sticker thing again. But don't just slap them around towns, that's vandalism for one, it looks bad on the site rep for two, and lastly, they will eventually get removed by a city worker and not attract any more site traffic.
I would put the growery logo on my truck for people to see on the road, on my bong for my friends to see when I'm smoking them out, and I would give a stack to my local grow shop for them to give out. Stickers can be a great way to catch eyes if their placement is appropriate. Location location location.

I've been trying to figure out how to help with this, and so I've been trying to do some honest research on some potential methods for dialing in growth patterns and directly modifying gene content and activity for our favorite plants.
I figured that I would follow that research up with as much experimentation as I am capable of, and post the results here. OC that is worth something in developing markets like CO and WA could draw in the more serious growers and researchers from legal states.
At the very least, you could post links to said growery content on other cannabis forums. That plus the SEO that TrueHerbCrystal was suggesting would do a lot to attract some users.
too bad my research is limited by my free time and the state I live in. It's been progressing at a slow crawl lately

Some cutting-edge gene experimentation would be awesome! Not sure what other sites are doing that.
I think if Trusted Cultivators did some kind of innovative growing techniques, and took lots of pictures of it.
I know at the Growery, people like PastyWhite make "Teks" on their new, innovative ways of doing mushroom cultivation. I think something similar here would do Growery some good.
I know Phytron (mispelled i think, hes a mod) is doing an innovated LED light DIY budget project. More stuff like that would be great.
Also, some exclusive info sticked to Marijuana Cutlviation would be great too..

also I seem to recall him making a spread sheet to help people calculate the costs of their grow, which is neat. I don't know where to find it now that the stickies are gone from cannabis cultivation, there was some good info up there too...

Allow seed trading get breeders to peddle there wears. 1 people love haveing access to breeders and asking questions 2. People love accessing genetics. And selling gear motivates breeders to be active. Win win.
Auctions get more traffic
promote sponsors to have contest and give aways.
Pic comps basically free stuff amd access to genetics will greatly help get and keep people.
Doing and allowing those things is the only thing you can do in my opinion to truly change stuff. Trust me if get bodhi or small usa breeders around you will be amazed whst will happen esp if tester giveaways or cheap auction. Or even dinafem spokesmen or canadian breeders like house of great gardener. Chimera. Spice of life, great white north ,medman even but he is pretty brutle.
