That has nothing to be with being American. The warmer the beer the more flavors you taste. Hence why warm shitty beer taste even shittier whilst warm good beer tastes even better. Of course warm beer does not "quench" ones thirst nearly as much as a cold one.

The reason American beers are served ice cold is to help kill the taste buds.
I use to brew beer. A good beer should be served between 60f - 65f and still be good at 70f.

certain beers I like cold
IPAs are delicious cold but I prefer them ~ 55 - 65f for optimal flavor
some beers I drink room temperature
most I drink cold though, cause I live in the south and its god damn hot down here

I know its just some swill beer, but those Bud Light Limes are good warm. I'd never drink a warm beer, but I got to a party and hadn't had the chance to chill my 12 pack of them, and I'll be damned, they aren't bad warm.
Call me a pussy, but I like my beers with that lime flavor in them.
