Keeping seedlings alive while away
    #545447 - 04/11/11 08:42 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

I've already googled the subject and can only come up with results for keeping already established plants alive.

Seedlings being more sensitive is there anything I can do?

The seedlings are about 2 days old, leaving on sunday for a week.

Ouch, a week is quite a long time, if they where flowering plants it probably wouldnt be a problem.

The only thing you can pretty much do is water them pretty good right before you leave and put a plastic bag over the top of your cups or growing container to keep the moisture trapped in.

Good luck.

Thanks mate, thought about leaving a saucer with water for the plant pots to sit on with plastic wrap to avoid water evap and a humidity dome on the plants, but not sure if it will last for a week, or cause damage because of over watering and high humidity.

Get a babysitter man...

I know it's a definite security risk, but if you want them to survive, I think you'd need someone to at least keep an eye on them for you.

Leave some instructions, and hope you can trust your best friend??

Aw man I have to do the same thing...

Leaving Monday for a week with plenty of project I wont be able to attend to.  I'm going the babysitter route for the most part because I can.  For my clones though I was thinking about giving them a good soak (flush) and leaving a hopeful amount of water in a rubbermaid tub or clone tray with them sitting in it.  It's my opinion that overwatering isn't as bad as underwatering for the sake of a week...

Good luck.

lol i just thought, 'Or maybe I'll donate them to Tank before I leave...."  :blazed:

Looks like I'm to late but a wick system would have worked. :potleaf:
