The main problem here is that the dispersant will help the oil break down into the environment FASTER than if they had left it as a slick. Before long we will be seeing microscopic amounts of oil making their way up the food web to humans for decades to come.

Its basically poison to every living thing on the planet. Just because it doesn't look like its there, doesn't mean that its not gonna ALL be here for the next 30-50 years.

Check the videos of the plumes though.  The dispersant is hiding the oil more than anything and just separates it into smaller droplets.

That's the point. They make it LOOK better while actually doing nothing to solve the problem. Just like after the Exxon Valdez, they still find oil under rocks, and in pockets along the coast line where it deposits.

They are just NOW entering their 3rd (and potentially final) phase of environmental / economic recovery in Prince William Sound.

100 billion dollars?  All the estimates I have read put it at much less than that, at around 20-30 billion dollars.  BP can likley afford to clean this up, pay off the fishermen and continue to make a profit.

I forget everyone isn't from the coast.

Most fisherman who we're effected by the Exxon Valdez DIED OF OLD AGE before they received any kind of compensation for the destruction of their fishery, effectively ruining their livelihood and bankrupting their business'. This was in a state where the economy, up before the oil boom, was basically supported by commercial fishermen.

Those that got their payments before dying, received on average about 40,000 dollars a piece, 20 some years later. I don't think I have to explain why this was not adequate payment.

Im sure not everybody will be happy with the fines and litigation results.  But they will certainly be held financially responsible for the clean up and restitution.
