Did you germinate your seeds or did you plant them straight into that mix?

It should be fine to start with. Just keep in mind that all the seeds need to germinate is moisture, that's why it is preffered to germinate first, then plant.

how big are the pots you started in, are they solo cups? if so those dry up pretty quickly and will get hard when they dry,  what soil are you planning on transplanting in?

Dont forget heat and air as well as moisture the 3 things seeds need to germ.

I'll concur on the heat, air not as important, I germinate in sealed containers to keep moisture up, and have great germ rates. The only bad thing I noticed is if you don't burp it here and there it is possible for mold to get in and colonize your seeds(Read: Kill). Of course, giving them fresh air exchange will mostly eliminate this problem.. Some of us have a hard time remembering to keep them moist, and you have to do it often when in open air. Sucks to find a dried out tail on your seeds.

Not like massive air D, just air, like dont submerge them in water or pack tightly so they cant breathe, I put foil over whatever im using cup plate whatever and poke holes in it just a few, using my incubator tecnique I get germ between 24 and 48 hours then move right to rapid rooters so I dont have to worry about drying out anyway tho.

okay well today i got 5 bags of gardeners gold and 5 bags of bumper crop of you dont know what these soils are they are really good from what i here.. heres a link to both read the discription

http://www.masternursery.com/masternursery.cfm?Action=ViewDetails&ItemID=3&Category=1

http://www.masternursery.com/masternursery.cfm?Action=ViewDetails&ItemID=1&Category=1

bumper crop bat guano and chicken manure IM SOLD lol..
anyway the total is 10 cubic feet of soil i plan on mixing these together and planting my swiss cheese in the ground with this mix no grow bags or anything cuz the native soil isnt that bad. and i have 5 swiss cheese sprouts right now yay i have them outside already cuz its nice weather here last frost is april 9. as for my autos im gonna plant them in these 3 gallon pots i have... i may even plant 1 or 2 swiss cheese in like a 5 or 6 gallon pot.

as for animal and pest control
neem oil
and this all purpose crap from lowes thats suppost to fight off all animals? anyone know what im talking about have you used it? Im going to plant 5 plants at a time outdoors starting with the longer one the cheese then the autos will go out in 5's.

as for nutes i havent decided yet. I was thinking fox farm nutes from amazon but they have 2 options the Open Sesame, Cha Ching, Beastie Bloomz for like 60 bucks and
Contains 1 Quart Grow Big for Soil
Contains 1 Quart Big Bloom for Soil
Contains 1 Quart Tiger Bloom for Soil

i dunno which one should i get? ive never used nutes before so im new to this every time i grew before i just i always just let it do its thing. and how much of these will i need for say 0-10short riders, 5 auto ak47 and 5 swiss cheese? i have 0 - 10 on short rider cuz im not sure whats gonna happen with all of them i bought from nirvana but the swiss cheese i bought only 5/10 seeds germinated. and i dont have problems germinating seeds so im sure its not me lol.

wow sorry for making this so long and all my grammer and punctuation errors

You mean it's compacted from watering? Shouldn't be the case man. If your soil's not somewhat loose for at least the first few weeks something's wrong. My soil always eventually packs up a bit, but way after the root mass is established. Early roots will struggle in a soil that's too dense and you won't get as quick a growth as you want. Sand helps prevent this. Soil and guano will make your medium stick together more as you increase the proportion of them, sand will counter this.

Also you shouldn't start in such big pots, small starters less than a pint is what you want till the plants are at least 6 inches tall. Goal is to have the soil drying out every 2-3 days because the plant's passing it out, not having the soil wet for weeks. For one thing this'll cause mildew to form on the surface.

no the problem with the soil being compact was fixed that was beause i only had bumper crop which you need to mix it with something now the soils good. I am gonna start them in small pots then transplant i just meant like for when they are ready to go outdoors into the woods thats when i will use the big pots/ thanks

If you want to protect your root systems pack small boulders around the main stem.

Works every time.  Good choice on the soil BTW.  I like to make my own for outdoor operations since I have to use so much, I end up buying pallets of supplies...
