do carbon filters REALLY Work???
    #581320 - 08/27/11 12:31 AM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Planning on buying a 160 cfm "canfilter" carbon filter tomorrow. I have a tent that's 2,3 x 4.3 x 7 feet. I was wondering how well these work. Input from everyone would be nice, BUT. please don't vote, unless you have used carbon filters attached to fans. Thank you all in advance. p.s. I'm growing a kush strain that is unknown but, I've been told it's INCREDIBLY smelly.
Do carbon filters REALLY work??? (Scale of one to ten. ten being highest.)
You may choose only one

grab your carbon filter and throw an Ona block and breeze fan outside your tent and that will eliminate any odor your scrubber doesn't grab.

They work great man. Don't forget you'll have to replace it after awhile.

They work fine if you follow the rules.

Don't have a fan that has a higher CFM than the filter is rated for.

Filter at least 70% of the rooms volume of air each minute.

Keep humidity below 60%

If you want your entire house/apartment building to stink like reefer,

do not get a carbon filter.

If you do not want your entire house/apartment building to stink like reefer,

It's really that simple. There are a lot of other methods people use, but the most effective, by far, is a carbon filter. Use any other methods as supplements if you choose, but do not neglect the carbon filter.

Ozone is fairly reliable if you set it up properly.

I had my ozone gen set up so most of the ozone would end up in the exhaust and the rest to be circulated into my grow room but I ended up having an accident where my bulb got broken so I just stuck to the carbon filter. The ozone was set up as a backup incase I needed to turn off ventilation or something but ended up using it for a couple months with good results. A big problem with Ozone is once you handle all the odor you will be smelling Ozone which could also give away your grow. Thankfully I live downtown in a major city so you don't smell much subtle odors.

I plan on making my own carbon filter to save a little $

I was thinking that I wouldnt really need it until i started flowering, but my mate says no. Apparently the smell is strong from the beginning.
I dont believe him since he often talks shit about subjects he knows almost nothing about, lols

When is the absolutely latest stage in growing that you would need a carbon filter so the neighbours cant smell it?

Sorry for hijacking, but its the same topic and I ddnt wanna start a new thread for that lil question

Some plants don't have a strong smell during veg but I've had several that would have been a serious security risk if I didn't have odor control.

Oh, one more question.
Should the carbo scrubber/exhaust be running 24/7?
Or only when the lights are on?
