inline fan and carbon filter size question
    #659032 - 02/15/13 08:54 PM (3 years, 9 months ago)

hey guys have a question. I was planning on using a 4x8x8 room for veg and the same for a flower room. so I bought 400cmf fans and carbon filters for each room but then after looking at the size of the lay out in the room I have realized that that is to small for 8-12 plants to flower in now im going to make the room bigger into either a 4x7x8 or 4x8x8. Now can I get away with a 400 cfm filter and inline fan? or should I get something bigger?  Also will two 1000 watt lights be enoff for that size room?

2 1000 watt lights will work just fine for that size of a room.

I would definitely get a bigger ventilation setup though.  Are you using vented hoods?  How are you keeping heat down?

I bought vented hoods that have glass on the bottom to seal it up.

You didn't answer the other question.

So what port size do you have?  Do you have a design of the room and how you're getting fresh air into the room?  How are you going to make sure that your temps are in check.

Well how are you using it?  Are you using it for air exchange?  Are you just filtering the air in the room?

im using a 11ft x 20ft room and building two small rooms inside it.

I was going to run set it up so that the carbon filter is hooked up to the inline fan then goes to the hoods and brings the air out side of the 11ftx20ft room to heat up the basement.

For fresh air im sill trying to figure that out. I was thinking from out side.

Well that setup will be bringing in fresh air as it sucks air out of the room.  But you are going to have to figure out some sort of intake, so you don't have negative pressure in the grow room.

Again, what size of venting are the hoods you bought?

That'd be nice.

Yikes, 6 inch is a little small to be using in that size of a room.  Especially since you are going to be using it as your exhaust.

Are both the rooms having their own exhaust???

ok here is the rough layout.  the green and yellow section is the basement. The green section is a room that I put in in to seal it off from the rest of the basement.. the blue squares are the grow rooms in the room I built in my basement.

the veg room will be 4x8x8. (going to be having 8-12 plants) and have two 400 watt mh .

flower room either 4x7x8 or 4x8x8. will have two 1000w hps.

the little gray nightstick thingy u see is how I was figuring the ducting have the two 6inch ducts going into a T duct that is bigger that will lead into the other side of the basement to keep my basement warm during the winter.

now for fresh air im still trying to figure out what im going to do. I want to bring it in from the out side but im worried that I will get mold or bacteria or bugs/dust mites and screw up my crop.

behind both of the blue squares is a wall that leads out side so I would be able to bring in air by setting some form of intake or something to bring air into the grow room/tents that im going to build out of 2x4 and panda film

so hawk do u think I should go with a 700ish cfm or 1000cfm? I was figuring to go with 1000cfm and hook up a can control so I could turn it down if it was to cooling off the room to much

Well first off you can vut the size of your veg tent down.  There's no need for one that big.  It should be about half to two-thirds the size of your flowering space at most.

oh and for the carbon filters what im going to do is just hook up 1 400cfm to each light in the flower room cause I orig got 2 4000 inline fans and 2 carbon filters.. one for the veg tent and one for flower tent. So im just going to use both in the flower tent. and not use a filter in the veg tent.

Well you're going to need more ventilation in the flowering room.  The 2 inline fans don't add up to 800 cfm if you are using them in the same ventilation line.  They would need to be separate.

Are they 6 inch fans?
