im doing a small indoor grow here in cali. Im only doing 2 automatic ak47 under a 150w hps. I was planning on buying a 4" combo filter/fan from htg supply. Im still worried about smell the most since last time i grew it got very very bad with only 1 plant no carbon filter though.
IME it seems that as long as you buy a carbon filter/fan combo perform at or below its rated CFM capacity...then they will remove most of the smell...I had one plant one time that was really really fuckin smelly and the only time i could detect a hint of stink was right before harvest...but other than that no stink the rest of the grow period.

I'd personally spend a few extra bucks and get the next unit bigger because you might want to upgrade in the future and it would be one less thing to buy.
Just make sure its good carbon. A buddy had one that didnt really do anything. It looked great and seemed great but did not get rid of the smell. Turned out he got it from ebay homemade. Whoever made it did a very professional job, but they used some shitty carbon. As soon as he put higher quality carbon in it, it worked beautifully.
