Do you flood and drain a flood and drain table?

I think it's every three hours. Not 100% sure though.

Depends on the size of your plants, the intensity of your light, airflow, and how thirsty the strain generally is.
3-4 is a good rough approx. though.

I suppose medium also matters.
Coco holds more water than clay, probably has a lower evaporation rate too.

Ahh you're right, I forgot that, that's absolutely important.
However, I would say that coco has a much higher evaporation rate than soil and clays because of it's extremely high hydraulic conductivity. It will be much more efficient at wicking water from lower depths to the dry upper layers.

Using hydroton. Right now 3 times while lights are on and one when dark.
This is some good knowledge.
Keep it coming.
So far I know I'm doing something right because there not dead.

On the other hand coco also provides higher insulation and has less surface area for evaporation compared to clay.

soils that are high in clay are extremely slow to dry out, that's just basic pedology

I guess it all depends on your light schedule and how much water you administer each watering. I'd say, it's good to give about 500 ml every 3.5 hours during an 18/6 light schedule; and 1000ml every 3 hours on a 12/12. =) Hope this all helps, I found DWC to be much easier, except for changing the resevoir.

What is your point? Weren't talking about soils high in clay but expanded clay medium.

Oh well now you're just switching sides on me. Expanded clay and clay are completely different. I was under the impression you were literally talking about clay, not hydroton.
