Purple Haze + Chronic + Sensi Star...Finished 4/27!
    #513358 - 01/13/11 10:22 AM (9 years, 4 months ago)

So, I tried to make one of these last time but totally spaced out on keeping it up to date. My bad.

This round I have a G-13 Labs Purple Haze seed that was popped about 10 days ago. I also have a Chronic clone (not looking so hot) and I'm waiting on another seed to pop, but I can't really remember the specific right now.

Anyway, heres the 10 day old Purple Haze / Purple Lady. I'll prolly abbreviate to PH from now on, just so you know.

I can't believe how big the original leafs are on this plant. I've never really had one that was quite as impressively big as that. You can't really tell from the picture I guess, but they are really wide. Maybe because its a haze plant?

Plants in veg are never very impressive, so I'll prolly post once more before the flip to 12/12, and then weekly or bi-weekly after that.

My plan is to veg for a month like usual and then flip, but I like to wait for a Sunday so its easier to count the weeks. Depending on her size, I'll switch on the 30th or the 6th.

Will update on the other seed and the clone too, if they do what they're supposed to anyway.

Heres a totally unexpected update. I decided today was the day I wanted to transplant my seedling, so I snapped a few pictures. Its 2 weeks before I plan to flower...but I don't know. Shes looking pretty small - but when I look at her today compared to the picture up there (only 5 days) maybe she will be ready~!

I'm using Roots Organics soil...I was pretty amazed at the roots at only 2 weeks in so I got a picture of that.

Impressive IMO (especially considering I didn't feed it any nutes yet).

This is her from the top. Something a little strange going on with the lowest leafs (didn't really spread to the uppers) and the bottom-bottom ones turned very dry and crumbled off. Admittedly, I DID forget to water her for quite some time. The PH is fine. Is it just because I neglected to water her?

And finally a clone of some Chronic a friend gave me. He only had $3 Walmart soil and it compacted and damn near killed it off. It looks like it has made a full recovery and has roots (transplanted her today). The Motavation clone he gave me didn't make it unfortunately.

Not looking the best, but coming along OK.

Shitty cell camera this time, good pics when I make the flip to 12/12.

Just a post to let anyone following know that I haven't forgotten about my journal this time :tongue2:

I transplanted my PH into a 1 gallon pot and put her in my flowering room. I also took a cutting before I put her in there. Its droopy, but I'm sure it will recover.

The Chronic is just very disappointing. I was planning on cloning it out and using it in a perpetual harvest type situation, but it has just under preformed in all departments. Its very stretchy, even though it has been under enough light, and the nodes that ARE there just look weak . I didn't even bother taking a cutting...I noticed today that there are preflowers already, so I just put her into flower. I don't think I'll save it at all. Not impressed.

I'll do some nice pics once they both start showing some nice buds

OK, I took these the day I put them into flower...the Chronic was already covered in preflowers when I put her under 12/12 and the Haze is just starting to show her pistils now. So, less than a week

The PH clone is looking not-so-great, but its way too early to tell if it will survive.

Chronic

Purple Haze

Still, nothing spectacular...just documenting for later. I can definitely smell the chronic though.

Yeah, I mean, when you think about what you are doing to clone a plant it makes sense that it wilts and doesn't look so great right away. You ARE completely severing a limb away from the main stalk haha.

That Chronic was actually cloned from the original plant because it was so burned and shitty...it was just easier to clone and hope than try to repair the damage that was done. Its really incredible, the bottom of it is about 1 inch thick and shrinks down to about a quarter inch above it. I'll try to get a picture. IDK what caused it...maybe the clone gel I used gave it super nutrients haha.

A minor update. The clone didn't make it, I'm not completely sure why. I usually have a 100% rate with clones

Anyway, I've just ordered a 400w HPS that will definably be here during the peak of their flowering activity, so, bonus!

Wow! I got my 400w HPS in today...its soooo bright

I'll do some updated pictures tomorrow after I get it all hung up. I would have done it today, but I'd rather have the whole day to work on it

Anyway, this post is just for me to document at which point I got the new light in.

Edit: Wow, after looking at those above pictures and having just watered my girls, it certainly IS time for an update. They're sooo much different now

400 watt update! [Re: the man]
    #529024 - 02/20/11 09:54 AM (9 years, 3 months ago)

Sorry about that, I was having some computer trouble, but all seems to be well now. I set up the light with my buddy. I wanted to put it on a bar, but the hardware store didn't have what I needed to set that up, so its screwed directly into my ceiling.

Room:

First we have the Purple Haze. For some reason it doesn't really have any significant bud growth. It might be because its a haze plant, and is taking longer to start...or, it *could* have been the light leak I mentioned in another thread. But, it looks like its starting now OK.

Next is the Chronic. Its looking pretty good, and is about where I expect a plant this young into flowering should look. Its so super stretched, I just don't get it  Ah well. Interestingly, all the buds look even-sized right now. The lower nodes have the same amount of growth as the cola on top. Which means, the cola is gonna be tiny, or all the nodes are going to have big buds. Time will tell.

A close up of the cola:

Not too impressive just yet, but...soon

As a bonus, remember that seed I mentioned popping up there? ^ Well, heres the Sensi Star that came from that. Topped it and put it in at about 3 weeks of veg.

I have some little friends who must have been camping out in my walls and brought back to life by the heat of my HPS.

To address the question up there ^ no,  couldn't have mixed them up. I have the pots labled pretty plainly, and one was seed, one was clone

dope ladybug! all i got are fuckin box elder bugs comin out all over the house...but i'll for sure by lookin for some garden friendly predators come spring...

luckily, the box elders are harmless to the plants, so i've just been letting them live in there instead of killin them off...the micro-ecosystem keeps me content during the long frozen winter...:mushroom2:

I feel ya. I live in a freezing cold place too. Never see ladybugs except in the warm grow room. My walls must be full of them or something, because theres no way they are getting in on accident

I think its funny that people actively search out ladybugs for their garden, and mine just seems to produce them! How convenient.

Updizzle [Re: T-Rex]
    #532125 - 03/02/11 09:38 AM (9 years, 2 months ago)

So, I was trying to wait 2 weeks to update, but this morning was wide open for me so why not

I'll try to keep them in the same order, so first up is the Purple Haze.  I feel like an asshole because shes so droopy. For some reason all the other plants can go 4 days between waterings, and she should only go 3. Since I mix up 2 gallons of nutes at once, I always make her wait. Probably a dick move, but I've gotta make it work for me a little.

Now we have the Chronic. The only one not planted in a gallon+ sized pot is the one furthest along. I dunno if that has anything to do with it (maybe it had its rootspace already full so it started flowering quicker?). Looks good, juuuuust starting to get a bit frosty, the camera doesn't capture it really.

And, last but not least, heres my Sensi Star. I love the way this grew. I'm not sure what it is, but it just grew the way I feel a perfect plant should. Its only a few weeks in with little calyx formation...but christ, it already smells. This one is gonna be pretty extreme I can already tell.

And there it is~ For anyone wondering, I use 1 tbsp of Fox Farm Big Bloom, 3 tsp of Fox Farm Tiger Bloom, 1 tbsp of Grandmas Molasses (every other watering) and 1 tsp of Snowstorm Ultra per gallon. I water every 4 days. Next week the P. Haze and Chronic will get a little FF Grow Big as per FF's recommended feeding schedule. Then, after 2 weeks of that, I'll feed it some Gravity and flush for 2 weeks after. Then, hopefully, harvesting the first or second week of April. The Chronic anyway. Not the P. Haze. I can tell thats gonna go probably through April maybe into May.

Thanks for following~ :bonghit:

Chronic Closeup [Re: T-Rex]
    #533909 - 03/06/11 04:25 PM (9 years, 2 months ago)

Not a full update, but I borrowed one of my buddies cameras for the duration of my grow, so any further pictures will be much better quality.

:awehigh:

Also, week 7 and 8 so they get their dose of Grow Big today and for the next 2 weeks. Then gravity, then flush.

March 15th Update! [Re: shasha]
    #537088 - 03/15/11 10:07 AM (9 years, 2 months ago)

So, I almost waited the full two weeks. Tomorrow is the day the Purple Haze SHOULD be watered (remember I mentioned she needed it a day early?) so I wanted to try to show her NOT wilting :mad2:

Anyway, in the last 2 weeks, I pushed the girls a *little* too hard and burned them a bit...lesson learned. 2 tsp of Tiger Bloom is good, 3 will burn them. Except the Chronic. I can't seem to fuck that one up no matter how much I abuse her

Lets get starteddddd.

Purple Haze:

Shes starting to fill out nicely! I don't understand why it took her so much longer to even START filling out. Remember, she was put into flower the same exact day as the Chronic. It *MUST* be the smaller pot, I think.

Still not much trichage, but shes getting there. Slow and steady wins the race, right?

The Chronic:

I see that the suggestion of not topping her paid off. I might have underestimated her flowering time by just a bit...but thats OK. I'll let her go a little bit extra so it works with my plan. Grow Big this week, Gravity next week, flush for 1-2 weeks and cut down in April (just in time for 4/20, what luck! Haha)

A little close up...(for some reason these next two were too big to upload? That doesn't make sense to me, because they were cropped? IDK.)

And further close up shows me no ambers, so hopefully another week of Gravity and then the flush will be just right!

Sensi Star:

Got burned a bit...already has more trichs than the PH...? Its tough to get in a picture, but ANY leaf near the  calyxes is getting mad frosty. Damn my unsteady hand...

Also, I noticed that someone nominated me for the Pic of the Month voting booth...thank you so much, I'm completely flattered...and hopefully I'll have some even BETTER shots as she ages

Edit: Lol @ my cursor in the picture  My bad.

I dunno if I should do a week of Gravity for the Chronic anymore...I really feel like she should be cut at the end of next week, IDK if I should push her an extra week, and I certainly don't wanna cut my flush short.

What would you do? [Re: A To The K]
    #539545 - 03/24/11 11:21 AM (9 years, 2 months ago)

How much longer do you guys think?

The bottom branches of the Chronic are all super swollen and look like they're ready.

But the very top isn't ready  by any measure. :mad2:

Its only the very top not looking ready.

How much longer would you guys wait? Its starting to purple, pretty neat. I know its got a lot of nutrient burn/salt buildup. I fucked up, but I flushed them and the other girls are coming around slowly.

Lesson learned. It IS my first grow over 2 plants at a time haha.

if some are ready and while the tops are still growing i would wait a while and maybe cut off the bottom ones, just leave the others to finish up. just my opinion.

    #542865 - 04/03/11 09:12 PM (9 years, 1 month ago)

OK. I finally got a pocket microscope to checkout the trichs, and they were where I wanted them (about 35% amber). The top inch of the cola could have matured a bit more, but I didn't want to leave the rest of the plant for a week while it finished up.

I harvested the Chronic on Wednesday. Its mostly dry today. It filled a little 8oz jar I have, as well as a packed solid pint jar. Pulled exactly 1 oz of bud from her. I also got exactly a quarter of VERY frosty trim (I only save the real good trim). Oh, and a ball of scissor hash about the size of a ball-bearing.

I smoked a bit, and although I harvested for a more sativa buzz, the indica pheno really stood out. Very very stoney high. The bowl burned forever haha. No real special taste or smell, but a very nice high so I'm not complaining. The buds were fluffy, not very dense. The Purple Haze is much more dense.

All in all, I'm really glad I got a full ounce from her...she was in ~a liter size pot, whereas the other girls are in a gallon or a gallon and a half, so they should be double weight or better I'm hoping. I would certainly grow Chronic again. I wouldn't want it as a main plant or to keep a mother of it, but it was very abuse resistant and finished up quickly. I see why its a commercially grown strain.

I forgot pics this week, but the next time I post pics, I'll do some of the partially cured chronic.

The Haze will probably go about 3 more weeks, maybe more. The Sensi Star will be done by the end of the month. Just gave the PH some Gravity last week, so I'm doing one more week of nutes and then a 2 week flush with molasses. Maybe Gravity for the Sensi Star next week. She got pretty stunted from the nute burn, but its frosty on levels comparing to breeder pics of the "white" strains.

Anyway, just an update for the sake of updating. It seems the Sensi Star is gonna be done before this fucking haze thats gonna take like 12 weeks+ by the time its done

I'm too impatient for hazes. Never again.

Edit: It seems the pics are broken now for some reason...not displaying in my album either. Oh well. Next week when I'm supposed to do my update I'll post new ones, because I delete them from my cam/PC and just host them here.

Sensi Star is coming down next week!

Her trichs are really telling me to cut her ASAP, but I've gotta get a little flush in there. I thought she was gonna be a 10 week girl, but its ending week 8 and I'd say at least 1/2 of her trichs are amber  :uhoh: I don't want to let her go too long.

Might chop the P. Haze with her...its getting to almost 12 weeks with it and I hate to run the light for one plant. But she won't be ready, so I'll let it go through April probably

 Just for you I took some pics today. After a test bud smoke test, I guess the Sensi Star isn't ready. But I'm feeling nice from the Purple Haze I just smoked. Can stand to go a bit longer. Prolly will leave both until the end of the month

Thank you for the nice comment skyjohnny!

First, a closeup of the Chronic that seemed to have gotten lost up there ^ (this one just won't upload here...I'll use tinypic)

Now the purple haze.

And, finally, the Sensi Star.

Remember, they got burned pretty badly. I'd say a 7/10 on severity. So, they lost a lot of their leafage :mad2:

I am the Lorax, I speak for the trees.

Chopped the P. Haze, its drying up. SS comes down Monday, if not before. Depends on what I do this weekend.

I don't have enough jars

I was gonna do one post with all 3 smoke reports after they all dry, but I'll do them as they dry and edit them all in a big post at the end.

Chopped the Sensi Star down today. Top bits were a bit immature, but its because she got burned so bad and started new growth later than she should have. The buds themselves got topped, so its got a weird triclopse thing going on.

Heres the scissor hash from all 3 combined:

Purple Haze is finishing up drying. The trim from that was crispy today, got a half O of trim, making for 21 grams total. Prolly another 14 from the SS...gonna have some beastly BHO.

Anyway, Chronic Smoke Report

After about 3 minutes of sitting here trying to figure out what this bud smells like, I've got nothing other than "generic". Nothing special about the smell whatsoever. The LOOK however really adds to the bag appeal - I see why commercial growers take such a love to this stuff.

The taste is just like the smell. Nothing to describe it but "weed". Its a bit harsh, I'm assuming because it didn't get as dense as I'd hoped. It burns to nice grey ashes though! So, I must have done a sufficient job of flushing it.

The high is really nice. Top notch IMO, not so sure why people generally don't like to grow Chronic. I'd say the high from it is a 8/10. It feels indica-ey, but for some reason I find myself dancing around when I smoke it . Which is odd, because I don't dance. A friend of mine only smokes on rare occasions (usually when I finish up a crop), and he said 1 hit got him high for a good half hour.

I'm satisfied with the Chronic. I would consider growing it again, if only because it was a pretty good yielder, and put up with a LOT LOT LOT of bullshit.

Overall rating? Hm. 6/10, maybe 5. Only because there is nothing special about the taste/smell. I hate to be a snob, but when it comes to medicinal marijuana, it really makes a difference. In my experience, one can only get SO high, ya know? Almost all homegrown is fire...so, you need to start looking for other attributes to make it worth investing your time and money in.

The novelty of having a big jar of the bud Dr. Dre named his best album ever after was enough to make it worth it once. Next time though, I'd like to try something a little different.

:sun:

Finally done. [Re: MushrooMan420]
    #551146 - 04/27/11 02:22 PM (9 years, 30 days ago)

OK! So, I have the final weights of everything, everything is dried up, trim is ready for hash.

Chronic final weigh in - 1 oz on the dot.
Purpe Haze final weigh in - ~2.3 oz
Sensi Star final weigh in - ~1.5 oz
Trim - 35 grams super frosty deliciousness

The trim will be butaned into some BHO and budder asap, pics surely to follow.

Purple Haze Smoke Report

Ths bud is interesting. It almost doesn't even smell like cannabis. There is a certain "sour" smell to it (not sour as in wet clothes, but sour as in a sour-patch-kid) and undertones of something else. Since it didn't really get the chance to cure up, I can't say 100%. Maybe the cure will bring out the smell. Lavender?

The taste is spicy, and different. I was bitching about the Chronic not having a nice flavor, this is interesting. The high is a good sativa high. Very energetic. Combined it with some coffee, and I'm nice and buzzing around

Would I purchase it again? No. 13 weeks of flower is ridiculous and out of the time of reason for me. I'm too impatient, and don't enjoy sativas enough to do it again.

Sensi Star Smoke Report

This bud smells like something really specific. I'm not sure what "Sandlewood" smells like, but I hear that describing buds, and if I had to imagine the scent, thats what I would call this stuff.

The taste is very mild, and certainly not offensive. Many non-smokers claim they hate the taste of cannabis, and thats a reason they don't smoke. I feel like this stuff would be perfect for them. Woody-taste, but very mild.

The high from this is a super stone. If I smoke a whole bowl of this to myself, I'm asleep. Every time. No more to say, its a great indica.

Would I grow it again? Fo' 'sho. This is my favorite I've grown so far I think.

Pics -

Purple Haze -

Sensi Star -

Group shot -

Well, thats it for my growing. I'd like to start up again very soon, but I fear the weather is preventing that. Too hot up here for a grow room, and if I started seedlings they wouldn't finish in time before the weather hit the 90's outdoors, and 120 in the closet.

What a shame I didn't think ahead and start a plant for when these would be done.

Wait a sec. Whats that thing in the back of my closet...I think I see something...

Nah. NVM.

See you in the next grow log~ when I make my hash, I'll post pics and try to remember to bump this with a link. Thanks for following. My next log should be up eventually. Till then

I didn't read the whole post or anything so don't know if you know this or not, but those dried pics in this last post look like they could have used at least 2 more weeks, maybe even more.

The calyx's are hardly swollen. I didn't see what type of lights you used or anything so maybe it's just the lighting, but they look a little immature to me. They still look tasty tho!

Im NOT being a jerk or a dickhead so please don't take it that way, just sharing my opinion with you. I had that problem when I first got into growing, and those buds look like mine did when I was doing that.

Oh my! I can't hardly stand to look. I have been dry way too long. I am saving for a seedbank buy and I really like the looks of those. 'Course I'd probably drool over a bag of mexican brick weed. lol

Haha, thanks! Too kind

@C99 - honestly, the Purple Haze was chopped too early. But, 13 weeks was testing my patience. I didn't have it in me to let it keep going. Its still a very good smoke, but I'm sure a bit more time would have gotten more weight. Ah well, it will certainly hold me over with no problem. The Chronic and Sensi Star were both pretty swollen when I harvested. Kinda tough to tell.
