The 9/11 thread
    #474848 - 09/09/10 08:46 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I'm watching a 9/11 program on the history channel.  It's crazy to remember that day in 2001.  Lots of weird shit happening, even in rural kansas, where I was.  Share your stories of where you were at and if you were personally touched by the events that day in some way.

i honestly dont remeber that day much. but ive been effected because of all the racism towards muslims now. So i havent been like directly effected by this. I feel very bad for everyone that had lost people in the towers, and anyone that was affected by that day. I also have mad respect for the firefighters and police and everybody who was there to help when shit went down.

I've reserve my opinions on what happened that day for another thread.

I was getting ready to go to school that day, watched the 2nd plane hit on the news. They almost immediately blamed Osama for it flashing his picture on the TV. I thought this guy must be some kind of fucking mastermind to pull one over on the most powerful country in the world.

Being as it was all the way accross the country, I did not pay immediate mind to all the lives lost, nor was I afraid for my own life, I know fucked up shit happens all around the world seemingly randomly.

When I got to school there were people crying, and acting crazy. It was panic for most people it seemed. If I had known the implications of what this attack would bring I might have been a little more scared.

Now I live in fear, not that I will be attacked by "terrorist", but in fear of my fellow Americans reactions to the mass fear.

10th Grade History. Walked into class 5 minutes after the first plane hit and our teacher had the tv on, we all sat down and were watching the TV before class started, and then the 2nd plane hit. and then the pentagon, and then the other downed plane.  I remember watching this like split screen action on the News that had all the crashes shown on the same screen. I of course like most americans thought "shit were under attack" I then watched dozens of firemen sprint into the building only minutes later to see it destroyed. I believed the official story like most people until I educated myself.

9/11 Had nothing to do with Osama, or terrorism at all for that fact.  If there really were men on those planes they were most likely just fall guys, Told by the CIA they were going on a training mission. Those planes were either flown remotely, Or what I belive is a small UAV was used as a laser designator for the trade towers. This can be seen on a youtube video.

All those dead people so they could start a war with a country that did nothing to us.  :boo:

The fact that congress voted against health care for 9/11 first responders in itself makes me disgusted.

I remember being in the backyard and mum called me in to watch the repeats on T.V. I was like 10 so it didn't even register with me at the time, I watched for a while then just went back to messing around in my backyard

I feel pretty the same now as I did back then.  Maybe a little less apathetic but the reason I didn't care then was because I didn't know anyone from New York, I don't have any family in New York, I just didn't take it that personal.
Yeah it sucks that those people had to die.
It sucks that some people took it way too personal(don't get me wrong I'm not talking about surviving families just people like me who didn't know anybody from New York).
It sucks that religious leaders used this as a way to push their agendas(and I'm not just talking about Islam either.  I'm sure christian evangelists used this tragedy to their own benefit i.e. New York is a wicked city that accepts gays so god smote them.  Its the same shit they used for Katrina).
It sucks that Bush would refer to this in every one of his speeches whether it was relevant to the topic or not.
It sucks that he used this as a way to increase homeland security, restrict our freedoms, and spy on us.
It sucks that they rewrote and edited TV shows and movies because of this.
Sucks that we had a powerless inept president that was unable to find those responsible for this.
Sucks that talking or joking about this event was considered taboo and over the line by everyone.
Sucks that no one trusted anyone with a tan anymore and people started setting fires to masques.

Seriously man there's so many different people, excuses, and things that made 9/11 worse than it was and that's what really pisses me off about it.

I was working in the Khazikstan Embassy that morning, installing a rubber gymnasium floor, when they told us to pack our shit and leave- pronto style..crossing from D.C. into VA over the key bridge, we could see the smoke billowing from the Pentagon.. Got back to Herndon, everything was on lockdown; there are a lot of govt installations there..
I will never forget.
Conspiracy theory? Fuckin bullshit!! No way the govt would hit the Pentagon as part of some master plan to attack Iraq or afghanistan. If that was the case we wouldn't have waited for the U.N.
If you ask me, THAT was the conspiracy. The UN dragged their feet on investigating the WMDs, giving Saddam time to get rid of his shit.. think about it, if the cops told you they were coming to raid your grow, would it still be there when they arrived? :wtf:

I was in the 9th grade and they called us back to homeroom after the first plane hit the towers. We didn't understand what had happened, so we just sat there not paying attention, goofing off, thinking it was a freak accident. Until we all watched the second plane hit.... then the mood shifted. My homeroom teacher stands up in front of the class and goes into a race fueled rant, telling us because we were on one of the largest military bases  WE ARE NEXT!!!! The RUSSSSSSIANS.....JESUS CHRIST WILL SAVE.... ONLY IN TIMES LIKE THESE WILL.....GET UNDER YOUR DESK. I NEVER LIKED AFRICA!
Bad teachers in Florida, man. We got into a friends car and hauled ass home. I smoked pot then watched the news for months trying to figured what the hell actually happened.

A friend had called me out when I said I could grow killer buds in dixie cups. I had finished the grow and he came over to check it out and I was doing my in your face routine. The whole system was home made. We were checking out the buds and the news came on telling about the towers.

Put a real buzzkill on what was a in your face moment for me at the time. We had no Idea we would still be at war with Iraq years later. They said at the time 3 weeks at the max.:frown:

This was the grow at the time

Chemical weapons he got from the Good ole US of A
He NEVER HAD the facilities to make them himself

And didn't Colin Powell swear he had the stuff to make nuclear weapons
in his pitch to start this God forsaken war

There was NO reason for the US to go to war Iraq
if we were looking for Osama Bin Ladin

The whole situation smells like shit to me

I used to buy into all those conspiracy theories, like explosives hidden throughout the towers, a fake plane planted at the pentagon, remote controlled airplanes, Bush did it all, ect. ect. ect. but really its all bullshit.  In this case fiction is far stranger than reality.  Beside these conspiracy theories are all such well constructed and elaborate plans does that sound like a scheme Bush could cook up?  He's a retard.

Stick to the more plausible conspiracy theories like when  he rigged the election.

Maybe because bush is simply a puppet...You think he got his crayons out and drew a laser designator on the trade towers? No. This shit was planned for a long time and It took more that bush's tiny brain to cook up the plan. Its just plain bullshit, You don't believe in the true story because it just seems too impossible. in your brain, there is NO WAY the US government would ever harm its own people....So you simply dismiss it as some crazy idiots theory. I'm the last person you'd call patriot.  I don't have an american flag anywhere in or outside my home, I've never said God Bless America, I don't even own any clothing with american flags printed on them.  At the same time I'm not passionately antiamerica.  I'm not so naive not to entertain the idea that the government is after me and I'm not paranoid enough to actually believe it.  And I realize that throughout the course of history many rulers and governments have used bizarre methods to control their people and just because we're living in more advanced times doesn't mean it can't happen now.  I don't believe all the shit my government tells me and I certainly don't believe all the conspiracy theories simply because they offer dissenting opinions.

I'd suggest if you were going to use a topic to play mind games and get a few cheap laughs by acting like a jackass you might want to do it in a topic that people aren't so serious about.

Man, I have no idea what the fuck you're blathering about but if you aren't trolling and actually believe any of the media in the US is "ultra left" then you're the sheep.

And I don't understand where either side of the aisle gets off telling people to "love it or leave it". It's just a completely facile idea. The entire purpose of a representative government with a living constitution is to adapt over time. There is no New World to be settled anymore, we can't just throw the folks we don't agree with out and tell them to go away, we need to learn to live with each other.

This isn't a conspiracy discussion thread.  I don't give a fuck what you believe about what really happened.  I'm just curious about where you all were and how the immediate society reacted in your area.  For example, later that week I remember driving down main street in my hometown and there were American flags EVERYWHERE.  I mean literally on almost every car, house, and business I saw.  It was intense.  I was in my first year of college and goign to a community college near where i lived.  I was getting ready for my early class (orientation) at home and my dad was watching the tube also getting ready for work.  He told me about it.  I went to my first class and i guess most people didn't know what had happened.  We were let out early anyway, although nothing was said about the plane crash.  I went back home and by that time a second plane had hit.  I watched the news for a few minutes then went to my speech class (i lived 2 blocks from the college).  In that class we all just went to the student union to watch the big tv's.  That's where we all saw the towers go down.  After that I went to work at the funeral home and went about my normal day, until i had to get gas.  There was a scare on gas in my town and ALL the gas stations in town (maybe 7 or so) were completely full with lines going for blocks.  One of the places dramatically increased the cost per gallon.  That drew a bunch of hate and he ultimately gave that profit to some 911 fund or something.  It was a weird day.

I was in sixth grade class and they turned on the tv to watch the second plane hit. I don't remember much reactions other than the teachers who were showing signs of sadness.

I'd feel much safer knowing it was some terrorists overseas, than thinking it is a false flag/inside job.

I was eating breakfast, watching tv when the news came on.

Watching the 2nd plane was just fucked up.

I was in seventh grade I believe.  Also inside job or not the US did use the events of September 11th to their own benefit.  And if it truly was al-queda insurgents then it was our involvement in previous mid-east crisis that led to such.  So either way the US is partly to blame.

Did anybody else get sick and tired of seeing those fucking American flags?  What statement were they trying to make?  We're americans, we're americans and we're scared, we're americans and we're pulling together, we're americans and we love fads, you attacked us and this is how we retaliate, well my neighbor did it now I have to do it otherwise they'll think I'm with the terrorist.  I swear my apartment was the only one in the complex that didn't have an american flag.

It was just after dawn in Woody Creek, Colo., when the first plane hit the World Trade Center in New York City on Tuesday morning, and as usual I was writing about sports. But not for long. Football suddenly seemed irrelevant, compared to the scenes of destruction and utter devastation coming out of New York on TV.

Even ESPN was broadcasting war news. It was the worst disaster in the history of the United States, including Pearl Harbor, the San Francisco earthquake and probably the Battle of Antietam in 1862, when 23,000 were slaughtered in one day.

The Battle of the World Trade Center lasted about 99 minutes and cost 20,000 lives in two hours (according to unofficial estimates as of midnight Tuesday). The final numbers, including those from the supposedly impregnable Pentagon, across the Potomac River from Washington, likely will be higher. Anything that kills 300 trained firefighters in two hours is a world-class disaster.

And it was not even Bombs that caused this massive damage. No nuclear missiles were launched from any foreign soil, no enemy bombers flew over New York and Washington to rain death on innocent Americans. No. It was four commercial jetliners.

They were the first flights of the day from American and United Airlines, piloted by skilled and loyal U.S. citizens, and there was nothing suspicious about them when they took off from Newark, N.J., and Dulles in D.C. and Logan in Boston on routine cross-country flights to the West Coast with fully-loaded fuel tanks -- which would soon explode on impact and utterly destroy the world-famous Twin Towers of downtown Manhattan's World Trade Center. Boom! Boom! Just like that.

The towers are gone now, reduced to bloody rubble, along with all hopes for Peace in Our Time, in the United States or any other country. Make no mistake about it: We are At War now -- with somebody -- and we will stay At War with that mysterious Enemy for the rest of our lives.

It will be a Religious War, a sort of Christian Jihad, fueled by religious hatred and led by merciless fanatics on both sides. It will be guerilla warfare on a global scale, with no front lines and no identifiable enemy. Osama bin Laden may be a primitive "figurehead" -- or even dead, for all we know -- but whoever put those All-American jet planes loaded with All-American fuel into the Twin Towers and the Pentagon did it with chilling precision and accuracy. The second one was a dead-on bullseye. Straight into the middle of the skyscraper.

Nothing -- even George Bush's $350 billion "Star Wars" missile defense system -- could have prevented Tuesday's attack, and it cost next to nothing to pull off. Fewer than 20 unarmed Suicide soldiers from some apparently primitive country somewhere on the other side of the world took out the World Trade Center and half the Pentagon with three quick and costless strikes on one day. The efficiency of it was terrifying.

We are going to punish somebody for this attack, but just who or what will be blown to smithereens for it is hard to say. Maybe Afghanistan, maybe Pakistan or Iraq, or possibly all three at once. Who knows? Not even the Generals in what remains of the Pentagon or the New York papers calling for WAR seem to know who did it or where to look for them.

This is going to be a very expensive war, and Victory is not guaranteed -- for anyone, and certainly not for anyone as baffled as George W. Bush. All he knows is that his father started the war a long time ago, and that he, the goofy child-President, has been chosen by Fate and the global Oil industry to finish it Now. He will declare a National Security Emergency and clamp down Hard on Everybody, no matter where they live or why. If the guilty won't hold up their hands and confess, he and the Generals will ferret them out by force.

Good luck. He is in for a profoundly difficult job -- armed as he is with no credible Military Intelligence, no witnesses and only the ghost of Bin Laden to blame for the tragedy.

OK. It is 24 hours later now, and we are not getting much information about the Five Ws of this thing.

The numbers out of the Pentagon are baffling, as if Military Censorship has already been imposed on the media. It is ominous. The only news on TV comes from weeping victims and ignorant speculators.

The lid is on. Loose Lips Sink Ships. Don't say anything that might give aid to The Enemy.

~Hunter S Thompson

I was on my way to the hospital to get my gal bladder removed when this all went down. The talk on the radio was it may have been a small plane or a fighter plane. It wasn't till after surgery that I found out the whole story. It was a surreal day that I will never forget

I knew then that something was fishy about it. I knew that the Muslim fanatics had been trying to attack America for some time, but never something this organized.

I had a hard time swallowing the 'official story' then and now.

I believed that it was far too easy to acquire some nuclear material.
So why something so dramatic, with so few lives lost. Much more could have been done with that kind of organization. A dirty bomb in New York would have been MUCH more disruptive. With much less planning.

It was an excuse to go to war.

The man who was supposed to be the master mind of the attacks is still not in custody, while Saddam is in jail.

:dudewtf:

WTF did Saddam have to do with 9/11

Yea, it was all just an excuse to start a fucking war :megacrankey:

Saddam got hung.

Hanged just sounds right to me for some reason.  Then again I'm not an english teacher.

Hanged AND hung are both acceptable..Not an english teacher, but I read alot.

you know what i did in english class? I came to class stoned out of my mind every day, i chugged vodka in the back of class, i put dead fish in the ceiling tiles. i put a gallon of old milk and orange juice in the file cabinet before winter vacation. i brought snakes in a tied up sweater and let them loose during class. i didnt go to school to learn, i went because i had to. i didnt care, and i didn't fucking listen to that stupid bitch. and i still don't fucking care. i tore the pages out of her books and burned them, and threw away all the books in the class, two books per day.  :twobooks:

heh, I was gonna put 'quite a bit' but I was lazy, tired and a bit drunk.
You caught me.. :congrats:
Actually, a lot is wrong also, unless followed by 'of'.. as in 'I do a lot of reading'. My mom is a Brit, so I grew up speaking the King's English- anything else was unacceptable.

This is America, there are no Kings, only reptilians, Illumibama and Arnold.

Yes, they're both correct in the correct context. An object is hung but a person is hanged.

Edit: in modern English men can also be hung but that's another subject entirely.
