ChillWillis goes perpetual [Indoor DWC T5 flourescent lighting]
    #460088 - 08/14/10 01:46 PM (13 years, 7 months ago)

I'm using a 4'x2'x5'3" grow tent that I sectioned into two 2'x2' rooms for flower and veg. The veg is currently soil for a mother but I will update to ebb and flow asap. The flowering room has two 5gal DWC buckets, I'm going to upgrade the 150w HPS to a 400w asap as well.

Strain: Sour Diesel (will add more later)

System:
Vegatative: Peat / Perlite mix.
Flowering: Two 5-gallon DWC buckets:

Lighting:My HydroFarm 93w 2', 4 bulb T5 for veg. and my SunSystem 150w HPS for flowering.

Nutrients:I'm using Canna Aqua Vega A+B and Canna Aqua Flores A+B for nutrients and will probably wind up adding in some supplemental micro nutes later in the game.

Germination:
7/1/10

So after 6 weeks here we are using full nutrients. I'm still using the hydro nutes for the soil but I think it's causing problems for the plant.
The bottom leaves have turned yellow/white and so I pulled them off. Some leaves are a little twisted and most are showing heat stress.

I have a couple questions.  Maybe i misunderstood.  You are going to put a 5 gallon dwc set up in a 2'x2' sized area in a tent?  Where did you get the seed for the SD?  Why only one?  Usually when people do a perpetual they will start with like 10 plants and cull the males and the bad ones and use the best one as the mother.  Using only one plant for the mother seems like it kind of defeats the purpose of having a mother plant.  to each his own.  Also, are you going to transition this soil SD plant to the DWC set up after it's already that big?  Good luck bro!

Good questions, I realize I didn't really elaborate too much on my plan.

The seed comes from a friend who I know is reliable (can't get into it), he originally gave me a 5 pack. Six months ago I tried to germinate 3 of them but my roommate killed them, then I tried to germinate the leftover 2 but only one popped

I'm just hoping that this one's a female, (sure smells like one,) if so it's going to be a mother for the DWC buckets. Next week I'm going to see him again and get more genetics from him.

It sure is tight quarters but the 5 gal bucket DWC is only 1' diameter so I can fit 2 in there with room to spare. I'm going to LST the shit out of the cloned flowering plants. Also since I'm working with a 150w HPS I figure it'll work out, hopefully.

This is all a work in progress, I still want to get a 400w HPS cool tube, build two ebb and flow trays, and get a couple carbon scrubbers and inline fans.

Tips, questions, suggestions all always welcome :bigblunt:

Looks like you're struggling with a P problem right now.  Unless my eyes deceive me the stems on your fans look pretty purple to me.  Did you check the pH of your soil mix?  Peat can be pretty acidic.

Coda: Yes the stems are purplish/red - also the outside serrated edges of a couple leafs are a much lighter green than the center of the leafs.
I've been trying to figure out the problem aside from the fact that I'm using hydro nutes for soil. Also the bottom 4 leafs did the same thing only they then turned white and died off
I've been seeing less of this since I did what I described in the next paragraph but now I'm noticing subtle, erratic spots of dry, brown.. Nutrient burn?

At first the nutes were balanced out to a pH of 7.00 but after a runoff pH test the peat was stealing some of the base. Now I've bumped it up a bit (basic) to help counter any pH lockout.
Ultimately I'm going to go to the shop and get some proper soil nutes and lime to help, just waiting to get a new tire before I make the 60 mile drive.

--

Cicken: Yes I'm 90% certain that the reason for the slow growth is due mainly to the lack of nutrients for the first 2-3 weeks and also due to the sativa nature of Sour Diesel.
It's currently 6" tall, aggreably not impressive.

Since the nutrients it's been thriving aside from whatever the fuck is wrong with the plant.

Anyone besides me think that that little plant in a medium pot does not need full strength hydro nutes (or any at all) yet?

I concur.
a full strength does seem unnecessary. :awesomenod:

Alright it's been a little over a week since my last update so here's the action:

The plant (standing at 8.5" now):

Some nice 9 tipped leaf action:

Still the same problem as before, probably nitrogen defficiency from still using my hydro nutes:

I've got a 400w switchable HPS/MH cool tube in the mail on its way to me right now as well as a large care package full of Advanced Nutrients!
Can't wait to get them.

Next week at some point I'm going to see a friend to get some new genetics, hopefully he has access to cones
:vaped:

Yes I'm loving the bushyness

When do you think I should top it as well as take a couple cuttings to clone for sex/flowering?

I think most people top after the fourth node.  I would wait a few weeks to take a clone.

Updated 9/2/10

The plant's still having some nutrient problems:

Also got some nutrients courtesy of High Times!

Just gotta get some base nutrients for soil now.

Tell me about it. I'm fucking pissed off.. :kingcrankey:
I wish I could just fix it

FB: My good friend writes articles for them sometimes. I guess tons of companies send them their products for reviews and they get to give a lot of freebies. He got a free 600w cooltube.. Almost every time I see him he hooks me up, he's also got access to tons of good strains and nugs.

I want to clone now to make a healthier mother with better nutrients. I can't seem to fix whatever's wrong with it. Gonna go buy some foxfarm soil and nutrients tomorrow as well as a carbon scrubber, an ebb and flow table, and a cabinet (money providing).

Do you guys just build your own flood tables or buy those pricey ones?
