Re: any of you believe in god? [Re: kyuzo]

Now how about you try to make sense, because I want to know what you think.

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

I do not believe that god created the universe
its just another part of creation, not something to be worshiped

no need for religion with a god like that

Guys... religion is religion. We all "know" what it means and we all have slightly different ideas. Religion is just a word... just sounds.

Religion differs from spirituality because religion an is organized set of beliefs.

Be kind. :flowerchild:

Oh shit. But what does kind mean? Kind can be anything!  :homerdoh3:

No. There's meaning behind words. People just decide to try to reject a meaning, and then they begin to talk out their ass.

No room for debate when people do that. Religion has a meaning, and doesn't have anything to do with god. Everyone has religion even if it has something to do with slaughtering people and and raping kids. EVeryone has a set of guidlines by which they live by. That's exactly what religion is. I don't see what people don't understand

this is the definition you were supporting earlier:  "A set of beliefs regarding God is religion."

The above is a set of beliefs regarding god.  Hence, according to your definition it's a religion

It's a part of religion. The same way the 10 commandments are. Even if the 10 commandments were apart of my moral code and not the Christians, it'll still be a part of my religion.

You seem to be confusing religion for ethics and morals

you mean reject a meaning that does nothing to further the understanding of the subject or differentiate it from things that are not like it?

Well, being that when one defines something they hope to differentiate it from things it is not like, and further the understanding of it, i would say rejecting the above definition was very apt

Ethics and morals are a part of many things
is the US constitution a religion.....I think not

but just because someone has ethics/morals does not mean they are part of a religion

Religion is the belief in and worship of a god or gods, or in general a set of beliefs explaining the existence of and giving meaning to the universe, usually involving devotional and ritual observances, and often containing a moral code governing the conduct of human affairs

I believe none of you have no idea what you're talking about.

it can be a part of a religion, but such a connection is not necessitated.

Though if you're saying that such reasoning, at some level, is based on a "leap of faith" I would agree.  But such a leap is not inherently tied to any religious belief.
