The Stork Visits the Penguin Residence *COMPLETED*

On Wednesday, May 14th, the stork visited the residence of Miss and Dr. Penguin, delivering 5 healthy femininized Big Buddha Cheese seedlings.
We are eagerly preparing their crib which is a C13/22/Closet Maid with: - 170 cfm centripetal inline fan - homemade carbon scrubber (2" thick carbon, 10" long) - 400W Galaxy digital ballast - homemade cool tube - recirculating mini deep water culture (DWC) system
Crib
Homemade cool tube and high pressure sodium bulb
The babies.
The Closet Maid cabinet comes with a cardboard backing, we replaced this with a piece of melanine. The closet is very discrete and completely light tight, except for one dot of light on the ground located where the seal of the two doors come together (not too big of priority now but to be fixed later). The light sealing was achieved using "Frost King X-treme Rubber Weatherseal" located at Home Depot, it comes in different sizes, we used the medium (3/8" wide, 1/4" thick). This was applied along the front outside edges of the cabinet and along on the edge of the left door. Also, we used caulk to light seal the back corners.
We also used a baffle to facilitate air flow and still keep it light tight. It is a piece of melanine about 1/2" smaller on each side than the inside of the cabinet (leaving a 1/2" gap on all sides). To this we adhered 8 6" pieces of 1/2" by 2" wood with an industrial adhesive. We spray pained this side (the underside) black with Krylon Fusion for Plastic black satin paint also from Home Depot. We also purchased a pack of vent filters and overlapped two over the 4" hole in the bottom of the cabinet. (sadly no pictures, forgot and now have a hydro system on top of it)
This is our second go at raising big beautiful green children together. (Though Dr. Penguin worked more autonomously during the first go)
Dr. Penguin will update later with the details about the cool tube and DWC system.

Need Help with Huge Box of Nutirents [Re: Miss Penguin]

Craig's list gifted upon the Penguin Residence a huge box full of hydroponics nutrients. Here they are...
GH: - FloraBloom, FloraMirco, FloraGrow, FloraMagic
Botanicare: - Hydrogaurd - Cal-Mag Plus - SensiCal Mg Mix (Bloom)
Advanced Nutrients: - Grandma Enggy’s Golden Honey (F-1) and Extra Pure (H-2) - 2 Bottles of B-52 Fertilizer Booster - Barricade (Potassium Silicate) - Bloom, Grow, Micro, Overdrive, Carbo Load, Jumpstart, Final Phase - Organic Wet Betty (Plant Penetrator haha) - Mother Earth Bloom and Grow - Dr. Hornby’s Voodoo Juice, Tarantula, Big Bud and Piranha - Bud Blood - Sensizym
Random: - Dyna-Gro Pure Neem Oil - Vierra’s Worm Farm
What should we use? How are they used? Does anyone have any experience with these? Comments, Thoughts? (Dr. Penguin says "Charts would help.")

if i were you i'd stick with the GH flora series, i've seen some growers get excellent results using them. If you're growing hydro you will need the hydroguard and the calmag. I'd also add in the sweet as well to the mixture once you start seeing some nice bud formation. If you stick with the GH series you shouldn't need anything else that you've listed.
The dr hornsby line is my second choice, the other lines i don't know anything about.
Neem oil is used to prevent mold and for pest control, it is not a nutrient, do not feed this to your plants unless you're battling a mold problem.
Vierra's worm farm sounds like something made from worm castings, which is a good source of N. If it's a solid fert you won't need it unless you plan on growing in soil, if it's liquid you won't need it if you choose another line.
As far as feedings it's hard to say exactly how much you will use. Each plant reacts differently to feedings so the best thing to do is start off light. When the plants are really young and get their first feeding i'd start at 1/4 strength and see how they react. Do at least two feedings this way and see what happens, if they start clawing or twisting you'll know to check your solution and back off. If the growth is aggressive and green you know you're at least safe with that dose and can possibly look into increasing the strength. Gradually bring up the strength of the dose making sure to check the PH and PPM's of your solution (more important with hydro) to ensure they are at acceptable levels.
Generally any nutrient labeled "grow" is intended for the veg state. These nutes are generally high in N and light in P and K. Generally anything labeled "bloom" is for your flowering cycle. These nutes have higher concentrations of P and K and lower concentration of N.
Hope that helps somewhat.

Question Miss Penguin,
What's the clear material you used for your cool tube?

I guess its about time I made my appearance here. I will be handling all the technical questions so field them up. Let me first say thank you all for stopping by.
Coda: Thanks for the suggestion. I ended up opting for the Advanced Nutrients three part program only because I have every one of the additives... (except scorpion.) I have used the GH floranova series in the past which worked great but I wanted to change it up and use all these neat additives, it makes me feel almost as mad-scientist-ish as pouring agar. It looks like I may run out of the Advanced grow-micro-bloom so I might switch to GH later, we shall see.
Uns4ne & C3R3AL KiLLRx: Coda nailed it. It is a pyrex "Bake-a-round" by corning class in the 80's. They are stupidly prolific on e-bay and there are a plethora of tutorials on the interweb on how to convert them. I'll post some picks of it later if I can.

AN's lines are pretty solid, can't really go wrong with them. Shouldn't be much of a problem if you have to substitute the GH micro formula.

I do not know whether to post this here or in the Doctor's Diagnosis file but it seems sadly that 2 of our seedlings have passed on. We just put them in the net pots two days ago (one had died before then) and suddenly one simply fell over and shriveled up and I woke up this morning to find another leaning a bit. This one I propped up with two toothpicks. Does anyone have any experience with this SIDS like disease?

How did you start the seedlings and how did you transplant them? Could have been a transplant shock that killed them.
