It can be expensive to do right, but you can make a fair amount of money doing it.
Do you have land? Any agricultural experience, even a small garden?
I know of three local farms, two of which are small scale but productive operations. One has sheep and chickens and produces veggies, eggs, and some great fungal dominant compost. The other has about 4 greenhouses and produce veggies for the local food coop and farmers market. They also produce honey, as well as maple syrup. It's busy work, but if that doesn't bother you, you should be able to make a few bucks at it.
The nice part is you can start as small as you want, and scale up as you go.
Another thing to consider is that there are often grants available for small farmers. We actually got one for a nice big greenhouse, but a few years after we put it up, when I went away for college, it collapsed under the snow load
