Help me light my new grow room

So I would've posted this in grow room design, but that space seems kinda dead..
I just built a 6'X4' grow space. It will be properly ventilated and since it's winter, I'm not too worried about heat.
I currently run a 1000w MH and after talking about conversion bulbs etc in another thread I realize it's pretty silly I dont flower under an HPS. So I'm going to buy an HPS.
My main question is however, what wattage should I run? I'mn pretty sure someone here will say just rock a 1000w HPS and put the MH into use somewhere else, but with the conversion bulb I have and my previous results I think I'm going to rock it either way. So would a 600w do the trick? Would a 1000w HPS be extreme overkill?
According to the golden rule 50w per sq.ft. I should run 1200w in my 6x4.
Also anyone who can turn me on to the right setup for the right price too would be much appreciated.
Thanks dudes grow on!

well i will chim in here.. if anything you you shoudl be using the most light u can in flowering..
so your 6x4 tent has 24square feet. so 1000watt/24sq feet = 41.66 watts a sq ft. so you deffently dont want to be using a 600 wat that will be to small for that size room. you can get away with 1000w but that woudl be the lowest i woudl go with.
Also why are you using a 1000 for a veg? the plants in veg wont be using that much ligh when they starting growing.. you could cut it down to 600 or even a 400 and just keep the light alot closer to the plants and still get good veg.

Yes a 1000 watt lamp would be best for your room. why are you gonna buy a new setup when you've already got one to begin with?
I would just get the hps conversion bulb like you stated and use the same ballast and reflector you currently have.

Dudetron! It's been a while since you've been on here!
I personally would try to put 2 1kw lights in that space... what kind of hoods you using? air cooled?

haha yes it's been awhile! My travels have taken me into other interests, this season it's advanced personal vaporizers! love me some high tech nicotine delivery! I've decided though that one can never be done learning a craft like growing fine cannabis however so I'm hitting the books again as it were.
So Yes I do currently have a 1000w setup that has successfully taken me through many grows. however this room will be the biggest (sigh and still never big enough) I've ever worked with and I would like to be adding more light.
Tankie votes for another 1000w which would put me at 2000w in 24sqft = 83w per sqft pretty hefty.
My current hood is air cooled and I would probably be springing for another air cooled if for no other reason than as an investment in future grows though it no doubt would come in handy for my next one.
BTW this grow is a once and done because tada my girl is pregnant and we're looking for a new place to live!

Well congrats on the new baby, man!! My wifey is getting ready to have our second in the end of March. It's definitely a life changer... and a lesson in patience, for sure! Lol
So, I would definitely recommend going with another thouie. Myself, I've got 4kw in a 6x10 space, and I still feel I should have another pair of hoods in there. Lol I'm at 66.6w per sq/ft, and i'd like to end up much closer to 100. A third set of hoods would put me right there at 100.

A 1000w would be good, but I would personally run 2 600w if givin the option.
That would give you 50w per/sqf along with 7500 lumans per/sqf, should give you a nice setup if you can get the temps under control.
