Never heard of this game until now. Looks pretty fucking awesome imo. Now I consider myself to be an amateur guitar player at best and never bothered to learn chords. Maybe this game will help me in that regard.
Also if you want to learn how to play they claim you can in 2 months with this "game".

It can help you build skills. I have played it for about 2 years and by using some of the mini games I got much better at chord transitions and some of the songs forced me to do things I normally wouldn't (like hammer on and hammer off).
This will not teach you how to play guitar. In many ways, it is just as useless as Rock Band to teach reading music or TAB, timing, melody construction, and so much more. The game focuses so much on just responding to visual cues that you miss getting the fundamentals and tying them together in a meaningful way once you walk away from the PC / console.
Someone expecting to learn to play will be disappointed unless they combine it with other learning and practice methods that focus the learner on hearing what they play and learning to handle their instrument. I would pick a Hal Leonard beginner book & CD/DVD before Rocksmith if I was just starting out.
That said, it is fun. I did not like how my Korean-made Strat played on it, but my American-made LP has killer tone and holds up to the hardest and most sensitive parts of the game.

For what its worth I've read the new version is infinitely better than the original.
I have played with the idea of trying this. Maybe some day. The only kinda music I'd eventually wanna play is definitely not gonna be on that game though. I wanna play me some stoner metal electric wizard shit.
-------------------- Of course it's happening inside your head. Why should that mean it isn't real?
