I have to admit I have been on the site but never bought or sold anything. I always thought its best to work face to face with most things

Wow.
Is it just me, or am I the only one who didn't know what the silk road was? I feel like one of the uncool kids in school for not knowing such a site existed. This absolutely amazes me.

i never trusted the site..... it was too open "hey look at us we sell illegal drugs".... i was too paranoid to use it .

It was a legit site and had quality drugs, never been ripped off. Security was tight too, but the alleged owner slipped up. He was advertising on diff drug sits under the same username, just days after the site surfaced, Can't believe he wasn't caught sooner. Also, the first of those sites he advertised on was the shroomery and shroomery was mentioned multiple times in the criminal complaint. Supposedly shroomery had a gag order for a few posters info.
Also, there are other sites that sell drugs as well, cheaper too if I'm not mistaken. Also, anyone who buys bitcoins, keep an eye on the value, it should drop pretty low here soon and when other sites start gaining popularity my prediction is the value will skyrocket.
This bust stops nothing, black market will always be there.

what if the guy was just a fall guy? I used to frequent the SR forums last year and DPR doesn't come off as the kind of guy who would become careless about the operation. Then again we are only humans

this whole story is fascinating to me. so much that we'll never know. DPR is our Heisenburg lol. he's gotta be the biggest drug kingpin ever, he ran an international organized crime ring. the guy is a fucking genius! sadly, i'm guessing they're going to throw the book at him and give him life. i feel really bad for the guy. dont believe everything you read or hear online about this whole thing either. who knows if that hit was real. this is such a big story that some of it is going to be fuckery.

From what I read on the Sr forum is this guy is the "orignal" dpr. Not the current one.

Just think of all the cash that was takin in this. I can only imagin how many people lost big bucks!
As for the tor network it has been thinkin. Could the hole thing be run by the feds? I know they say this and that about it BUT could it be a way for the feds to catch people doing illegal things? What better way then to put a program out there that people think is rock solid in privacy and BOOM the hole thing is a giant set up? Who knows..
All I do know is that I am VERY glad I never bought or sold on there!

haha I bought some bitcoins last year for about 10euro/1bitcoin...randomly around spring time I watch the bitcoin price and it was up to arround 100euro... 
Spend the money in vegas... what a waste..

I originally thought he was cleverly bartering with the 80k for a prior hit, but apparently that "happened" except it was an undercover (UC) staged hit on a former silk road moderator.

Quick Summary:

- In December 2012 UC convinces DPR to look for a vendor who wants to buy large quantities

- Vendor agrees to buy 1 kg of cocaine from the UC through silkroad and has the kg sent to the employee's address (apparently to be re-shipped)
- On January 17, 2013 Feds make UC delivery to employee and wait for him to confirm the receipt on SR (the 1kg was worth ~27k)
- On January 26, 2013 DPR informs the UC that the employee was arrested by LE and has stolen funds from SR users. Asks UC to beat the employee up and return the funds.
- On Jan 27, 2013 DPR asks UC to execute the employee instead due to concerns that the employee knows too much and will cooperate with LE
- On Jan 29,2013 DPR agrees to pay 80,000 USD for the hit in two installments, one half immediately and the other when the job is done
- In February 2013, money exchanges hands and the feds stage torture and death and provide DPR with "proof"
- On March 1 2013 DPR transfers the remaining 40,000 USD to the UC
Like I hinted at earlier, it now seems like the later blackmail/hit interaction with friendly_chemist and redandwhite was almost certainly some sort of CI/UC trap, but time will tell.
If that's the case, it seems like LE must not have known or at least had proof of DPRs identity until the ID incident.
Some say he allegedly attemtpted to have two people killed

And others are sayin he was a "fall guy" and the real DPR isn't in custody
Most sounds like wishful thinking. Starting to lose interest in this whole ordeal.

How they caught him
In the section of the indictment outlining how the link between Ulbricht and Dread Pirate Roberts was established, Tarbell detailed how an FBI expert codenamed Agent-1 had located an early online mention of Silk Road dating to January 27, 2011, when a user under the handle "Altoid" made a post on a forum for users of magic mushrooms.
"I came across this website called Silk Road," wrote Altoid, in a post which linked to the site. "I'm thinking of buying off it... Let me know what you think."
Two days later, someone using the handle "Altoid" made a similar post on a forum called Bitcoin Talk, recommending Silk Road and providing a link. "Has anyone seen Silk Road yet? It's kind of like an anonymous Amazon.com. I don't think they have heroin on there, but they are selling other stuff," it read.
I just seen they posted another article on how they caught DPR and now I have another question. If you look at the artilce it says about a forum about mushies! Is that forum the shroomery? and if so what does this mean to its users? along with this forum? I know we are not safe with anything we do on the net but should we be worried about our whats going on here and the link with this arrest to forum use?
Does anyone know the person with the handle "altoid" are they still on the forums?
I have been keepin track of this pretty hard. I always cover my footsteps (at least try) on the net as I hope you all do to! So whats your thoughs now?
