AeroFarm/Aeropinics Airpump neded or not?

im running a aerofarm setup which is basically just a rubbemaid aero setup, it consists of a 45l solution tank with a submersible pump for the solution sprayers and hosts 4 plants atm.
im just wondering if such a setup needs an extra airpump or smth else to pump frsh air into the water? or do the roots get their oxygen/CO2 from the surrounding air?

There is no need to aerate the reservoir if the roots are not going to be submerged in the water. source1. source2.

Air pumps are usually only needed in a dwc or to keep a large reservoir oxygenated.
They used to include them in some systems like the ez cloner but even on their website they say that it just used more electricity without any benefit so they no longer package them with air pumps.

My opinion is totally different here. I say add the air stones.
Now anyone who has done research on this subject know air stones are the poorest forum of aeration. However in this type of system it's pretty water tight, so has a poor as hell air exchange rate. The air stones will help in this respect. By forcing air in, well the old air has to exit.
As for aeration goes water falling onto itself it is by far the most efficient why to aerate water. So this type of system pretty much takes care of itself.

That's a good point! It would of course be the only function of the airstone, but I can see that would indeed be the best easy way to get new air into the system, as building a simple air exchange anywhere on the thing would probably result in leakage.
