Capp Ebb and Grow - 3rd time's the charm
    #541559 - 03/30/11 07:54 AM (5 years, 8 months ago)

This is my 3rd time attempting the Capp ebb and Grow.
I expanded my room by 7 feet, and am only working with 1 strain,

Little leaves, big buds... 45 day bloom period.

I will start blooming them shortly, but as of right now, I have some massive plants!!!
Going to hang trellis before taking pics.

I am hoping for a better harvest this time.

specs
*single rockwool cube placed on top of a single larger rockwool cube.
*inside bucket has been raised 2.5 in. to allow maximum draining of the rockwool.
*Holes drilled on the top of the inside bucket for LST
(bending the branches out so the fill in more evenly)
*added a more powerful airpump in the resevoir
*adding an outlet for hot air to be sucked out of the room
*keeping ppm down around 700-900
*Ph 6.0

Wish me luck!

All are around 2 ft tall, I have switched them to Bloom
12on 12 off (8pm - 8am)

I hung a trellis, and may even double trellis em'
Today marks Bloom phaze and for the first week i'm going to keep feeding them grow, and then switch to Bloom and Boost.

I increased the air pump to the reservoir, it is now at a vigorous bubble.

45 days from today should be harvest, but I may let them go longer to analyze the trichomes
Do you think that's a good idea?

What strain is this? 45 days seems very short, I have only bumped into a couple in my whole time that can preform in that time, even those I drag to 55. I still don't get why your doing rockwool like that in a ebb and grow? Have you finished a grow yet doing that? Mine would be way to top heavy knocking everything over and probably taking the trellis down with the plants.

edit: Or did you find large rockwool cylindrical blocks that slide in?

not cylindrical, but large squares, that fit nicely.
1 cube on top of a very large cube (takes up whole bucket)

There is something very similar they sell called a STD deluge insert.

yes, this is my 3rd time doing the buckets.
This strain was given to me from a good buddy, he swears by it, and i have seen the results.

Yeah I saw those deluge inserts in action and was very unimpressed with them. I know you weren't happy with geolite but I'm curious as to what went wrong? My plants couldn't be happier in the geolite with a 6in rockwool cube. Was it just the yeild you were unhappy with?

it was the root structure....  I am not sure if i did a horrible job washing the dust off or what?

I had the cubes pushed down into the hydroton, i didn't have them sitting in it like you.

the way I have the set up now with a spacer in between the 2 buckets, makes it completely drain. I feel this is necessary when using rockwool in one of these units, so that it properly drains.

I am interested in your grow, and am watching it. we should finish around the same time.

Yeah, I can't check my roots because my tomato cages are all zip tied to each other for extra support. I'm expecting to harvest may 6th but its really up to the plants not me. I need to start some new seeds so this next round will be the last blueberry round. Not entirely eliminating it I have been producing massive amounts of seeds in my tent. Its a tough decision bettween Bubble gum or Mendo PurpsxSFV OG kush.

Any updates on how its going? I love watching progress in action!

edit: How do you harvest in that trellis? A one time deal that you have to cut apart? I have to use bolt cuters on my tomato cages to cut them apart. Just curious.

splendid. showing signs of flowering. Will get pics soon.

Yes, I sacrifice the trellis, I will actually be adding a second one on top where I can put my Co2 hose on.

This shouls all be done tonight, I will take before and after pics... they are getting very tall (again) and possibly growing into the lights..

(this is what happens when you get fully vegged clones for free)

Here you are, as requested.

I added a wall mount fan like you have...

I also installed a 160cfm squirrel cage fan for sucking the air out of the room... where does it go? down the drain!

Since I have done this, the smell in my house has gone down like 3x.

here are the bitches

Double Trellis'd them and here's the one we will be watching as time progresses

Enjoy

The sewer is a great place to put the smell.
I've been doing this since day one of growing.

Damn good looking grow.

Do you have any advice to pipe in a more permanent solution?
use of PVC? My connection is quite janky and I can remove it when I want to use the sink.

I'd like to tap into the sewer outlet, but my house is extremely old.

If you're handy with plumbing at all, its not too hard to add a "T" joint either right above or tight under the "S" curve under the sink's drain hole...then you could pipe it around and under the sink, still leaving the sink available for use...
You'd have to get a plug for the sink so the air actually goes down and not back up into the room, but I think that would work... if I wasn't on my phone, i'd try to paint up a diagram for ya, but I think I explaned it well enough. Lol

no that's good advice.
I have a trustworthy plumber at my disposal.

the difference this run has made in the way the buds are growing is like night and day compared to my 2nd grow with these buckets.

Of course it was winter and I had like zero ventilation and the room was about 7 feet shorter

So I am flushing right now, with straight ph'd water.
My tap water comes out at like 175ppm and the res is at like 400 ish now.

on the high spots just under the lights I am having some yellowing / wilting due to heat stress... could be too close to the lights.. whatever

things look great, i still don't think I have the sheer mass like flying dog
