GNAT Problem....PLEASE HELP
    #618309 - 04/15/12 10:46 AM (4 years, 7 months ago)

Hey everyone.
I have been having an issue with the annoying gnats around my plants.  I went out to the pool store last Wednesday and got some D.E and put a layer of that on top of my soil.  Also grabbed some sticky strips and hung them in the corner of the closet.  STILL have a gnat problem.
For example...I can lift up one of the buckets and there will be 5 or 6 crawling in and out of the drainage holes.  Any advise will be great.  Need to stop this NOW!!!

Getting rid of this problem once it starts is a bit of a time investing process from what I've seen.  You've done the D.E. awesome.  Now what you need to do is make sure that you let your soil dry out as much as possible in between watering.  I mean let that soil dry out until the plant shows drooping signs.  Other than what there is not a whole lot you can do once you are at this stage.

I haven't had issues with it.  It's a matter of what they process pool grade with apparently.  Nematodes can work.  I've strayed away from biological predators.  Just never did the job well enough for me.  Let me know how they work for ya though man.

Bah.  Neem is a big meh in my opinion.  Remember that you need to let that soil dry out like a mother fucker.  I mean let the plants get a bit limp and then water lightly, let it get limp again and water lightly again.
