If the government cuts social programs, that is a tax on the poor.
Well, I'm not arguing that if we take the democratic way, we won't be fucked economically. We may very well be. However, we're most likely fucked economically either way, so I'd rather stimulate the economy by building on medical care and infrastructure than by siphoning money off to the Republican campaign contributors through more war in the middle east and defense / prison spending.

Ohhhh shiiiit...
I just realized that the announcement that the rating was changed came several hours after the NYSE closed. Ha, I bet all that selling in the last two days was due to insider trading.
The markets still haven't reacted to the downgrade, and they won't until Monday in Tokyo.
We could potentially see a black monday.

Republicans are cunts for sure, but anyone who tries to tell you Democrats aren't just as guilty is biased in their conclusion. They receive just as much corporate donations, while pandering to union bosses for their donations.
I've seen some people say they expect to see the dow jones down 10% on monday.
Also, Reagan was a hypocrite.

That is as good a solution as any. I try to keep up with the shit-storm in DC, but what I'd really love to see is it all going down.
I'm ready to establish a voluntary society based on economic and social liberty.
Whenever the rest of you guys are done trying to fix the inherently corrupt idea of government rule.

As for the democratic party...yes, they are also guilty. But not "equally guilty".
As for Ron Paul... My suspicion is that he is a ploy by the Republican Party to attract swing votes from libertarians and youth. I would not vote for him because of his party (the Republican Party) and because I do not agree with many of his opinions. For example, I think US policies should promote liberty nationally, and not allowing individual states to decide how much liberty they afford to their constituents. And I support social programs and programs for the poor, which require taxes. And I do not believe corporations do a good job of regulating the markets they have monopolies on.
He's also one of the "all cuts, debt ceiling standoff" guys and he is adamantly against ending the Bush era tax cuts to reduce the deficit.

You're characterization of Ron Paul is common, but incorrect.
The established republican party doesn't want Ron Paul as their nominee because he challenges their corporatist positions, he is a threat to every US politician.
The only reason he has got as far as he has is because people are waking up and demanding an alternative choice.
Ron Paul's positions in no way reflect anything the GOP (republican party) has stood for, ever.
Edit: He is only running as a Republican because our electoral system is so fucked a third party can rarely get on the ballot. Dr Paul is essentially a right-libertarian.

He's pro-life. That doesn't sound libertarian, that sounds republican. What's his stance on medicare, social security, and infrastructure development? Do you know?
The fact of the matter is that people who would normally hold democratic values are supporting him in large numbers. It's taking away much needed votes from the democratic party and it is supporting the falsehood that the Republican Party still has an ounce of legitimacy left in it.
Ron Paul will not be president, but his candidacy does wonders for the Republican Party.

I disagree.
See, if the government cuts spending right now, a whole bunch of people are going to lose their jobs. Not McJobs either, but real jobs that pay well enough to support a family - and a mortgage. And then those people are going to default on their mortgages and we know what happens then. Tent cities, bitches!
There would be less money in the hands of the American consumer and as a result, businesses would suffer too, and the gov would get less taxes, and it would cycle.
Right now you're saying "but inflation!" - exactly. The government needs more in certain areas to spend more to put people to work, to provide social programs that people need (since they have no jobs), and to rebuild our tattered infrastructure - but it also needs to deal with its deficit. That's where taxing the rich and cutting waste (like defense spending) comes in. We end wars and close loopholes, return to the pre-bush rates, and suddenly we can actually afford to rebuild and keep this economy afloat.

It's like this - the economy is one big ship that Obama has to try to steer.
Bush was fucking around on the boat and starting getting piss drunk and ramming into people, then using taxpayer funds to pay his friends to repair the boat (which they didn't do), so there's a few (many) small (large)leaks in the hull and people are pretty damn seasick.
Anyway, Obama is like, hey! we need to use the leftover wood (the big economic ship is made of wood) to fix the holes in the ship!
But the republicans are like, OMG NO YOU'RE GOING TO WASTE THE LAST OF OUR WOOD. See, there is actually enough wood to go around, but the republicans would rather put the wood on the markets and let the people on the ship with the most money buy the wood so that they can have some Chinese people assemble it and then Bush and his friends can use the wood, which is now a luxury sailboat, to go to shore so that he and his friends can "get help and rescue the rest of the people on the big sinking wooden economic ship."
That's not going to happen though.

Republicans as a party have become estranged certainly but you make the mistake of generalizing and discounting all republicans simply because of their party affiliation. And though Ron Paul is pro-life he is pro-states rights first, which is a republican ideal. He believes it is not up to the federal government to decide but rather the states. Which I agree with.

freedom to own firearms
These are republican ideals. Abortion, gay rights ect has nothing to do with being a republican.
