Nutes for COCO
    #387012 - 03/19/10 08:06 PM (14 years, 12 days ago)

I have made up my mind that this weekend is the weekend I begin to build my STEALTH TUB!...

So I was wondering if one of the more experienced growers could give me some advice on using coco as a growing medium. Or maybe link me to a good tutorial...

I believe I've heard that coco is actually a cheap medium to grow with... considering i only have 3 plants will this be true

with 3 plants even in 5gal pots one 50L bag of coco is enough

I'd suggest using General Hydroponics Flora or Floranova series. The Flora series is a 3part line where you would use the Micro and Bloom or you can use the Floranova which is a one part. Very easy nutrients to use with RO water 8micro/16bloom or 8ml floranova bloom to the gal = 2.0 EC which with most strains will be peak flowering, dilute for smaller plants.

A couple of breeders on ICMAG use 6micro/9bloom one adds epsom salts to the feed to raise magnesium another uses bloom boosters (higher P and K) a lot of people report deficiences(Mg) using these application rates (I think because the Micro contains Mg)

pH should be 5.5-5.8

http://www.icmag.com/ic/showthread.php?t=81674 there's the thread to one of the breeders who uses the 6/9 incase you're interested

Hey Dank, that tub is nice, Id go with a growtent but then again I dont kno your situation, but thats a nice setup for sure. I also would suggest the Floranova line, Ive used it for years starting outdoors moving into a ebb&flow and now to coco and had great results in all. They have great additives like floralicious plus, liquid koolbloom, florablend, floranectar ect ect, I use them all in combo with either the floranova grow or bloom depending on stage of growth obviously, they work great especially the floralicous plus that stuff is awsome. Its also fairly cheap and very concentrated so it lasts.

Good luck man heavy harvest to ya

Not at all. There is different grades of coco which will drain faster or hold more water which will be more suitable for smaller or larger pots to an extent. Some coco is hydroponics grade because it drains rapidly some of the finer coco like Canna is better for hand watering because it will hold water longer.

Canna is a good all purpose coco so is B'cuzz, Growtek(General Hydroponics or Botanicare? not sure either of those brands are fine though). You can poke holes into some of the bags of coco at your grow shop to check out the texture.

Also to be safe you should run water through the coco to leach any possible built up salts as a precaution, most good coco brands will be low in salts but it never hurts to be sure.
