Light proofing * 1
    #371757 - 02/23/10 06:37 PM (14 years, 1 month ago)

How can a passive intake be made totally light proof? In the summer, I'd like to run lights at night when it's cooler.  But my concern is of accomplishing total darkness within the cab during the bright summer day.

As for outtake, I figure the ducting leading to it can be curved in order to eliminate light leakage, no?

Got it.  4 or so right angle PVC pipes, painted black inside.  Should I go with two passives? Just one? Or one with an intake fan? What would y'all prefer?

You can make a baffle which is a series of squares with out corners and each one is rotated as you move farther from the center, this will block the light totally.

Wow, thanks for being so helpful.

Funny thing is, I personally only log in here from work.  But not all workplaces are created equal, so I can't necessarily recommend that you do the same.

wow it sounds like you have a pretty awesome job then!

Baffles are pretty simple to make. This is the best picture I could find online, but I think it conveys the point pretty well.

That's genius.  I may be forced to use this design.

Wow, that's really cool! I've been wanting to something like that for my grow because its been really sunny outside, and I want to bring some of that precious sunlight to my plant, but without anyone seeing what I'm growing....

One question thou: Does the light travel only one way, like watering flowing thru Pressure Regulator Valve (PRV)? (Its the best metaphor I could come up with)

If so, how do you prevent light from your grow room from going out the other side of that baffle where the sunlight comes thru? Is that what that black paint is for?

I was also thinking, what about those one-way mirrors you see in cop movies: would that work? Does light really just go in one direction in that mirror, or can it go thru the other side?

Cool stuff

Don't laugh, I drew that by hand because I did not want to have to access the main frame. So the lines are pieces of wood that are painted black. They are screwed into a single piece of wood so they stand vertically. The very center box right after the vent got a little fucked up, there should not be any corners, just sides. And this goes like under your box so that this is like the base but you could also just sandwhich it between a second piece of plywood.

That's weird you say that, because that's the first thing I did when I saw that photo! Whats the chances!

But I like the idea, I want to see it built and implented: will it be one-way lighting, blocking out the light from the grow lights but allowing light in from the outside? I sure hope so.....

Make it happen JewDude!

It is the same idea pretty much except a little more pre-caution.
