What's Your 3 Favorite Stoner Movies?
    #211578 - 04/02/09 08:00 PM (15 years, 28 days ago)

I wanted to see what the members of the Growery like as a Stoner Movie. If you don't know what a Stoner Movie is, then you probably never smoked weed before and will likely never read this. But, just to be Crystal clear, I am going to *try* to define what a Stoner Movie is:

Stoner Movie noun 1. A feature film in which the main characters, (and to a lesser extent, the supporting characters) explicitly smoke, deal, or eat chronic Cannabis buds frequently (or on at least one occasion) and are clearly seen throughout the movie intoxicated by Cannabis. 2. A film in which marijuana itself (and the use of it) plays a critical role in the film's plot development (ie: Blow). 3. A comedic film (or documentary) in which marijuana, the use/selling/smoking of marijuana and its pharmaceutical effects on the user are used for comedic effect and is presented in a positive, light-hearted manner. 4. Any film or documentary created specifically for the cannabis counter-culture audience.*

{end of definition}

Here are my Top 3 (maybe 4) Stoner Movies of All Time
(in no particular [dis]order):

1. Half-Baked (1998)

2. Cheech & Chong: Nice Dreams (1981)

3. Harold & Kumar: Go to White Castle (2004)

(4.) Potfest (year ?)

(photo unavailable)

[If it comes out. It will be made with the characters of Super Troopers and Beerfest, 2 other great Stoner Movies, with Beerfest being a more quasi-Stoner Movie]

Whats your Top Favorites? (doesn't have to be exactly 3 movies: I just would like a somewhat narrowed favorites selection)

*Also, feel free to suggest any changes to my definition of "Stoner Movie". Its a group effort to define such a broad slang phrase, so any suggestions are welcomed...

I would not really call it a pot watching movie...but more about the lifestyle in humbolt.

Every stoner should see it though.

I completely agree. Not a stoner movie but a definite must see. Most especially if guerrilla farming appeals to you.

Thanks for all your great comments. Its interesting to see everyones personal Stoner Movie favorites. As you may have noticed, I have made some changes to my original definition (if anyone actually cares).

I wanted to include documentary movies like "Super High Me" which fit my new criteria of what a Stoner Movies is (in #3 & #4.): being a comedy based on weed-humor made specifically for the cannabis counter-culture. Also, I made a new definition (#4) that includes non-comedies like Humbolt County (which I have never seen, but want to).

Also, I hope you guys like the pictures. If you want, post the cover art of the movie you're talking 'bout. I think it would be interesting the see all the different varieties of weed-themed cover art from various Stoner Movies. The Choice Is Yours.

Saving Grace

and I'm just going to clarify which saving grace.
http://www.amazon.com/Saving-Grace-Brenda-Blethyn/dp/B00003CXMY/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1245817123&sr=8-5

Quote:

Imagine a Cheech and Chong pothead comedy, only instead of two scruffy lowlifes, the movie is about an aimless Scottish gardener and a middle-aged British widow with a green thumb. Grace (Brenda Blethyn of Secrets and Lies and Little Voice) has just discovered that her recently deceased husband has left her with an enormous debt when her gardener Matthew (Craig Ferguson, The Big Tease) asks her to help him tend to his small, personal-use marijuana crop. Grace soon realizes that they can turn her green house into a hydroponics laboratory and turn out a profitable crop--if only they can keep the local constables at bay and then find a dealer to actually sell the stuff. Saving Grace has well-developed characters, intelligent dialogue, a charming and capable cast, and clean, clear direction. But at heart it's still a marijuana comedy, with most of its funniest moments coming from the silly, stoned behavior of elderly ladies and other stuffy Brits. Nothing wrong with that, and Blethyn and Ferguson give the film a strong anchor. The ending goes a little over-the-top, but most of the movie is well-grounded in genuine human behavior. A subplot about Matthew's girlfriend's pregnancy is treated with respect and integrity. Sweet, silly, and sincere. --Bret Fetzer

i cant believe there are so many grandmas boys on here.  That movie has a couple funny scenes wrapped around a bunch of faggot actors.  If you find the drug dealer with the monkey to be funny at all you must be in like 7th grade or something.  Nick swardson is pretty much the only funny guy in the movie.

The fact that you scrolled through multiple threads just to quote one wrong bit of information I posted makes you pretty pathetic Faggotz.  Excuse me it "dissovles trichomes".  The only reason I thought that might play a role in stripping it of trichomes is because  if you are going to kief weed or trim you are supposed to let it sit in the freezer for a little while beforehand to make the trichomes more brittle and hence easier to snap off the heads.

Ah, dumb and dummer is true genius. Those farrely brothers are sick, hillarious bastards. I'd love to meet them. Never really enjoyed cheech and chong, only watched them when I was way younger though.

Pinapple express
Alice in Wonderland
Caddyshack

Honestly I'd come up with a more true list if I thought about it for a day. Will come back with an edit. Has to be something lighthearted for me if I'm gonna watch it stoned.

Has anyone seen 'Dead Babies'? It's called 'Mood Swingers' in America I think. It was out in 2000. Cool Movie if I remember right.

1) Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas (the movie and the book are both awesome!)
2) Dazed and Confused
3) Cheech and Chong Up in Smoke

Also, the television series Trailer Park Boys is really incredibly funny!

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

Pineapple Express
Grandmas Boy
Strange Wilderness

Has anyone ever seen Rolling Kansas? A friend of mine said it was pretty funny, but then, we were a lot younger at the time...so it might not be. I remember Scary Movie used to be funny too.

I'm dling it right now, I'll let you know if its worth watching.

Of course it's happening inside your head.
Why should that mean it isn't real?

Try Detroit Rock City I watched that one about ten times when I was in high school. Outside Providence is pretty good too, it's weird I cant think of more stoner movies right now........ I've seen them all but my mind is blanking.
