Does that have to be used with a hydroponic setup?

plants grow in two stages.

vegetative growth (high N, low P low K) and flowering (high P high K low N)

you can get a high P and K nutrient if you go straight into flowering. Such as Advanced Nutrients hammerhead

Sorry I'm still venturing into botany from mycology but you can go straight into flowering and avoid the vegetative state?

Can you do that with clones as well? I remember someone saying clones can go straight into flowering with those.

Clones can go straight into flowering once they have rooted because they have been taken from a sexually mature plant, one that has already went through the vegetative state. Often times, with indoor growing, sativa dominant and pure sativa strains will be started with a flowering light cycle, due to the sheer size that they can get to. Other than that, when you are starting from seed, its best to let them stay in the vegetative state for around a month, until the signs are there that they are sexually mature (alternate nodes, preflowers). Keep in mind that, even though you can put clones straight into flower once they have rooted, your yield will be significantly less than if you had let it vegetate for some length of time.

No you do not. I use it in my soil grows outdoors as well as vegetating seedlings indoors... Works like a fucking charm if you ask me but hey I only know as much as I think I do... hehe
