My wife really wants to get solar, we get quite a bit of sun here, ~188 days.  What was your start up cost for roof panels?

They are a leased system that came with the house, so I'm not super familiar with the cost of setting up a completely owned system.

I've heard BTC could hit 100,000 by Xmas... only bought enough to pick up a half gm of O-PCE but it'd be cool to get a few hundo in there before winter.

Yea my buddy bought in a few hundred USD worth of BTC last year because they were projecting 90-100k by last xmas, and then it tanked. I tend to take claims of a sudden sprint to 100k with a big grain of salt, and keep my fingers crossed that it actually does make it to 100k. :pipesmoke:

Never been to the desert.  Do you have a pond or water feature to bring in critters?  I'm in the Great Lakes region, it gets so humid and uncomfortable in the summer I can barely function.  Average rain 34", average snowfall 48"

We have a small fountain in the back yard that brings in a ton of birds. I'm slowly trying to create a native plant garden in the backyard that will provide food and shelter for birds, pollinators, and beneficial fauna garden pest management. Its a slow process, but has been a really good learning process.

We regularly have relative humidity under 10%, and I don't think I've ever seen it much over 50% even in the evenings.

75mph winds?  Got dang you should get a windmill.  Is that only a spring time thing?  The best part about the Midwest is the changing of seasons IMO, winter being my favorite.

Yea I wish my HOA was ok with that, there's a ton of untapped energy in the wind out here. The highest winds definitely happen in the spring, but we get periods of high wind like this all year. The locals claim we get bad thunderstorms during the monsoon season (mid-late summer), but we've never had thunderstorms as bad as they get in the spring and summer in the southeast. Fall/Winter are my favorite seasons, but the longer I stay out here, the less I tend to hate the summer, since there's almost no humidity and very few bugs. :dancingshroom:

I have a Canon EOS 7D MarkII. I modified a spare image sensor for monochrome full-spectrum imaging a couple of years ago to use for astrophotography. Now that I have a dedicated astrocamera, I need to open the Canon body up and replace that modified image sensor with the original one-shot color sensor. Those sensor changeouts are a pain in the ass

I have been shooting micro four thirds for a while but wanting to go fullframe mirrorless, just can't justify the spend. Have a pretty good set of glass; 7-14/2.8, 14-54/2.8-3.5, 50-200/2.8-3.5 (multiply focal length by 2 for full frame equiv) plus a 17/1.8 prime and some adopted film lenses with the 1950s russian jupiter-8 "red p" 50/2.0 being the coolest. When germany broke up the commies took the leica sonnar designs and built their own version and the red p denotes the premium version. Beautiful lens with lovely render, iirc a 12 or 9 blade continous aperture. Excellent portraiture on crop sensor

That's pretty neat. Yea my astrocamera is a full frame mirrorless with a 62MP monochrome sensor (no IR or UV cut filters, no bayer matrix, etc.) It's also thermoelectrically cooled, so I can drop the sensor temperature up to 45C below ambient, which all but eliminates thermal noise on longer exposures.

The problem is that its not very portable or easy to use for general purpose monochrome photography, and it cost quite a bit. Still, its worth its price for the quality of the data it produces for astrophotography.

I'll use my telescope to zoom in across the flat earth and snap a photo, just climb up on top of your place and point yourself to the west and hold there until I can confirm I got a good shot.

Miley said that we should fire up the Cessna and get out of this rain so we're heading over to Data's place to catch a tan.

Tired of fucking around with that stoopid cashapp verification so my buddy is sending me a gram of Ketamine.  Going to try to limit myself to a tenth once a month.

Got our new granite countertops installed yesterday.  Putting in the new sink and disposal today.

Watched a cool documentary last night about a mother and daughter that hiked from Vancouver to Alaska during the winter.

Hope errybody is feeling pretty OK!
