 Strange curling, unknown cause.

Can someone with fresher, sharper and more skilled eyes take a look at these and offer insight on what could be causing this seemingly-severe curling?
Once it was obvious that it wasn't due to lack of water, and it wasn't going away, the soil was pseudo-flushed with 5gal water day-before-yesterday, and still no signs of improvement. It could be overwatering, but I can't be certain since my overconfident ma has been catering to it. I'll be taking control of it for a while.
Edit: If these photos aren't sufficient, I can kill the HPS and get some under more natural lighting and from different angles.

I was unaware of the existence of these "moisture meters".
And as long as I'm keeping track of things, knowing when to water is no issue for me, but like mentioned in the OP, I haven't been the one tending to it lately; which I will be changing.
Cool to find out about those meters though, thanks for the heads-up!

Problem seems resolved.
Waited until soil was thoroughly dry and dusty, with the plant looking pretty bad the entire time,then gave it fresh water along with drastic decreasing of temps, which gave overnight improvements. I'd say both were significantly affecting it.
