    #669804 - 05/08/13 10:54 PM (10 years, 10 months ago)

When does the light turn 12/12 in Illinois.

I am not growing marijuana. Only flowers.

The same time as it is 12/12 everywhere else; it's called the equinox

Lucky for you, "12/12" is an indoor grower's concept...it isn't applicable for outdoor growing.  For instance, plants start to flower here around late july, early august.  There's a little under 14 hours of light a day at that time

While we all experience the equinox at the same time, we don't all experience the same amount of daylight.

Within a day (really a few minutes), it doesn't matter where in the US you are.

In miami:  Sep 25, 2013 7:11 AM 7:14 PM 12h 02m 55s

In maine: Sep 25, 2013 6:30 AM 6:30 PM 12h 00m 31s

In alaska (since you asked): Sep 25, 2013 8:38 AM 8:37 PM 11h 58m 12s

But it't spring equinox, it's going to get longer and longer from there, he needs the other one :cookiemonster:

What if he's not in contiguos murica?  What if he's way up in the northern regions of alaska

What?

The spring equinox follows the same principles...and is just as unimportant!

I was just trying to illustrate that;  A) 12/12 happens at the equinox and B) The equinox(es), and "12/12" concept are totally irrelevant for outdoor growers.

The longest day of the year is the summer solstice.  That'll be the 21st of June (From Texas to Alaska ).  In the weeks following that date, the plants will begin to sense the day length shortening, and gradually shift into flowering.  This will occur (with 90%+ of strains, in the lower US) sometime around late july to mid august.

So all an outdoor grower needs to worry about is finding a strain that flowers early enough and fast enough to finish in your area. First frost date is really the most important determining factor.

Now it wouldn't be very convenient, efficient or effective to shave a few days off your indoor flowering room lights-on-time every day to induce flowering.  Indoor growers therefore switch from 18/6 or whatever to 12/12 to "snap" the plants into flowering.

He doesn't 'need the other one'.  He needs to understand that the idea of "12/12" is an indoor growing technique and not ever something that ever needs to be considered by an outdoor grower ever.
