My poor dog :/
    #651614 - 12/17/12 12:04 PM (11 years, 3 months ago)

So I had my dog inside with me this morning because it was raining. I go to take him outside in the morning and go back to sleep. When I go outside he comes out of the doghouse with his right eye swollen shut and a blood red 'thing' popping out.

I think it is a spider bite possibly a black widow but I am not 100 percent sure.

There is also the possibility my German shepherd might of been rough housing with him ( he is a chihuahua pomeranian mix) but when she does his eye has never gotten swollen like this.

Well I have to see the vet in 4 hours since that is the soonest they can get me in.

sorry to hear about your dog. i'm actually in the process of nursing my dog back to health. he has a slipped disc putting pressure on his spinal cord.  poor guy was nearly paralyzed.  steroids have reduced swelling and he's slowly regaining control of his hind legs.

good luck with the vet. hopefully it's something minor.

My fiancé is a vet tech in the neuro field so she deals with such patients often. Good to hear you were able to get him in within time.

Well I just got back from the vet and he said the swelling is from 'trauma' in his eye as if a cat or dig bite him. Well my German Shepherd always plays with him by 'rough housing' and putting her jaw around his head. This is the first time she has harmed him in the 6 years they have been together.

The vet gave me some ointment to rub in his eye to prevent infection and some antibotics.
I need to go back on Saturday so the vet can see if his  cornea is scratched by then the swelling should be down enough for him to check out his eye.

I really hope there is no major damage to his eye.

So my dog was in my room waiting by the door and I forgot he was there. And when I opened the door, it hit him right in the eye that hurts him and he gave out a loud yelp.
