The Mayan calendar was based on astrological cycles and has NOTHING to do with our standard 12-month Gregorian/Julian calendar. The "year" delineation for the Mayan calendar was 365.24022 days, which makes it MORE accurate than our global calendar AND it has no need for cumbersome leap years since the extra days are naturally accounted for.
Additionally, the start point for the Mayan calendar predates the Proleptic Gregorian calendar by over 3,000 years.
It amazes me that people think leap years would affect a calendar based on astrological movements.

Yes of course they were accounted for. The Mayan calendar DIRECTLY corresponds to the movement of the Earth through space, as observable by the relative positions of visible celestial bodies from specific locations on Earth. Don't you think it would be pretty easy to pick up on if they're mentioning a winter occurrence in the middle of July? Additionally, don't you think it's weird that the OP graphic says that the real date would be 18 months ahead, but the apocalypse would have occurred 7 months ago? Why is there an 11-month discrepancy there? And why is it in favor of the international calendar, when the Mayan calendar is older? Shouldn't the apocalypse have occured something like 4 years ago?
