Allah, Bless Me
    #569927 -

I tend not to react to people who say "Bless you" after I sneeze. Or I'd simply respond with "No thank you."

Presuming I believed in god, am I now obliged to congratulate someone on their quickness to react, with thanks? Not everybody is a 'believer', so why accept the gesture? Why do people instinctively say it? Shit's gotten old real quick.

Milhouse from The Simpsons once said it's because your soul escapes when you sneeze, and saying bless you brings it back to the body.

I just say "Gesundheit" without any expectation of a response. You?

If an atheist takes it as an insult, it is because he is a moron, "bless you" is totally a good thing to say, if you get mad at someone for this, he should just understand it is not because he doesn't believe in God that people cannot talk of religions to him, why always separate when you can live together peacefully?

i can agree with this. i basically avoided saying it to not get a rise from some folks. its just crazy how its embedded into our reflex systems and we say it without question.

perhaps i'm just seeing this from a selfish attitude. ever since i got into a discussion earlier about the casey anthony trial my mood has been off today and totally close-minded.

sometimes i catch myself saying bless you to people. i've grown up around peers of different religions and am pretty tolerant to them.

It sure is, reasons? What is a religion? It is a belief that attempt to explain the environment around the persons, what is science? Same thing

Why would science be "the truth"? Because scientists say so
Why would a religion (ex: any monotheist religion, but here it will be with Catholicism, doesn't necessarily works with animism) be "the truth"? Because Vatican say so...

It is not because you were educated with science that it is necessarily the truth, I prefer to say it is an explanation, among so many others which are all coherent in themselves, I do believe it is a religion, because people these days venerate scientists like priests & "The Science" like a god.

Many people do have this mind set, and it is through their own ignorance of science that they arrive on science as the source to all answers.

Throughout history science has proven itself to be completely wrong, the one thing that sets it aside from religions is the fact science can change its "truths", eventually, to meet reality.

Science can't answer all questions yet, nor do I think it will ever be able to, but at least their approach is more logical than religious institutions.

I like where you were going with that, but the underlined part bugs me. I don't think people who say they believe in science say that scientifically "proven" facts (That phrase bugs the fuck out of me as well because one of the most primary tenets of science is that NOTHING can be proven) are the hard fast truth. I think what they're saying is they believe in the idea that you can take outside inputs, experiences and observations and use them to reformat your understanding of your surroundings. Whereas most religions are founded on a steadfast set of laws that are unbendable and permanent regardless of new information, science is malleable and constantly striving for improvement.

At least that's how I interpret statements like that
