 HPS Bulb Life and When to Replace?

I was looking for hps bulb life and found that most bulbs are listed as "24,000 hour mean life" meaning the bulbs last an average of 24,000 hours, or 2,000 12/12 cycles. Does this mean I can expect a 400w hps bulb to last for over 5 years of 12/12?
I remember hearing that hps bulbs should be replaced every 6 months or so, because their lumen output drops off significantly after a while. I searched the internet and the Growery but couldn't find a clear answer. I was hoping to find some graph or chart showing hps lumen output over time.
The bulb I'm currently using is a 400w hps from ho depo, been using it for about a year, time for a new one?

Probably a good idea to look into a replacement. I personally try and change my bulbs out every 2-3 flowering cycles.

yeah coda is rght u don't wanna have a bulb to long or u r just cheating urself.. if u had that bulb long.. u will be able to tell the diference visually if u put a new one in.. i always say if you can look at the bulb its time for a new one.. cause a good new one will put spots all over the place when u look at it..
