First off, that's a serious fucking CFL! :eek:

Second, CFL's actually put out more heat per unit of light than HID bulbs. So while sound in theory, you'd actually be hurting your yield more by switching to CFL than just dealing with the heat of an HPS. A better investment would be a proper ventilation system.

Really now, for a light that large, 68 watts is raggedy. Either that or you're the guy from the BK commercial, because that thing looks HUGE. They have 100 watters at HD like half that size.

its 68 watts and puts out 4100 lumens tho
a 150 watt hps puts out 16000
so yes it mite have only 56% the lumen power per watt than an hps but it produces much less heat

no it doesn't. Whatever energy it consumes that isn't converted to light is converted to heat. So 56% less lumens = 56% more heat per watt

yes but the cfl has more suface area to dissipate the heat plus there is no hood so the heat can flow upwards
also no ballast to produce extra heat

You'd be better off with an air cooled HPS, or just a 150w sealed HPS, like I have. It puts out a bit of heat but it's quite manageable with a couple fans.
