What is the best way to find out the sex of this plant. Its 3 weeks old from a seed and is 5.5 inches tall

Ive actually seen that exact picture. And where those arrows point to all I have are new pot leaves forming

He said its 3 weeks old, so its probably not showing sex quite yet. Unless he is flowering it.

In a couple weeks you should be able to tell with most plants. As far as I know, there's really no way to tell without either flipping your lights or waiting for it to mature. I believe by about your 6-7th node you should be able to have something to look at, though it wont be as obvious as in the example pics above for some time...
I would wait 2 weeks if you can't flower it before then... I don't think trying to clone would be useful for sexing unless you were trying to test genetics.

My computer wait berserk for a second..... Anyways....
Most strains of Marijuana will show their sex on their own after six weeks of veg. This is called pre-sexing. This is a natural occurrence. Your plant will show you what sex it is and stay in veg so long as your photo-period is 16 hours or more. If you want to induce flowering on a young plant. Just switch your photo-period to 12 on 12 off. 48 hours of total darkness between the veg and flower cycle will send your plant(s) a strong signal to flower. Try it. It works.

I don't think I've ever seen preflowers  I've vegged for as long as 8 weeks and had plants not show sex, I usually just flower and then weed out the dudes

Last time I grew they all showed sex at 4 weeks so then I chopped some of them down.

Really!?!. That's crazy dood. Asstated earlier. I have seen pre-flowers a hundred times.
Plants grown from seed under an 18/6 day/night photoperiod will usually show pronounced pre-flowers before plants given 24/0 day/night photoperiod. Under a 16/8 day/night regimen, pre-flowers show faster and are more pronounced, usually.
You can either bud them from here or pick desirable females for mothers.

maybe that's part of it, I veg under 21/3 so I guess I just give them too much light for them to show sex
Then again, I'm in a very MJ friendly state so 90% of my grows are from clones so I don't even bother to check sex, but the 3-4 grows I've done from seed I've never seen gender before I flip the lights

logic? if 12 hrs of light causes them to flower, then wouldn't shorter daylight cause them to show sex earlier? makes sense to me

Well my plant is 19 days old. No pre flowers no nothing. I do have lights on 24/7 though. This is my first grow im very new. Do you guys suggest a different light period for veg?? Also what do you mean by flipping the lights.

Dont flip your lights, they mean do 12/12. Unless you want your plant short dont flip them now.

by flipping the lights I just mean changing them to 12/12 for flowering.
Technically cannabis can photosynthesize around the clock without any issues. however, I like to give my plants a dark period to cool off my room a little, save money, and allow them time to uptake a little food without immediately consume it. Do whatever works best for you but you won't notice a huge difference in my experience.

Yes and YES! Clones already have sex on them.
I am jealous. I have got to get to a more grow friendly state. Fast. If I could go down the street and get clones. Heaven. I've always had to make my own.

 yep. You wanna know where I do my clone shopping? Craigslist. It makes me weep with joy that I can literally shop for live marijuana plants on the internet and then just call the dude and go pick them up. Everything from rooted cuttings for $10-25 each, or full sized mom plants for $200-$300

Yeah. I have seen em on craigslist. When I heard about that, I took a look. My brother is out in southern Ca. He picks em up at 5-10 dollars! Believe me I have started a "Get the fuck outta dodge, quick" savings. I will be amongst you soon.
At least I know how to grow mothers and cut and root clones. I'm getting a chubby thinking about the possibilities.

rub it in fine. I did find about 100 free 4ft t8 fixtures today  waiting on a call back right now the guys ad said they just need to be taken down out of his store.
