Tips on cloning a heavily budding plant?
    #177020 - 01/07/09 10:26 PM (15 years, 2 months ago)

I have read in a few places that taking a cutting from a budding female will actually produce a clone that roots and grows faster.  So I gave it a shot, and after about two weeks, I had no roots.  The clones were still green and pretty healthy looking, but rootless.

Now my plant is budding much heavier than it was before, and I still need a clone!  Any tips?

My advice would be to finish up your grow, but instead of cutting down the plant, leave on a few branches with about 10 fan leaves total (any fan leaf not just the big ones, the more the better).  You can trim off all buds but leave some leafs.  Then you can put the plant back on 24/0 and grow it over again!  In a week or two, new bud sites (branches) will begin to grow.

A clone will have a better chance of rooting if taken during the vegative growth stage, I would wait until then.

I have 2 plants.Took 2 clones off each. Both budding but The low branchs showed no sex.Have had them under 24/0 for 2 weeks. Now the sex has shown up.

How long till they go back to veg?

You can try to take some cuttings but they will most lily fail to root. I would do what AKSE said and reveg the plant. When you get some new growth, use that as your clone stock.

your clones should have rooted very fast, i never personally took clones from a flowering plant, but have seen it done, and roots came in a few days, but then they have to revert back so veg growth is slow, mayby it was something else that caused them to root poorly????
