Has anyone tried Tissue Cloning yet?
    #318955 - 11/19/09 11:03 PM (14 years, 4 months ago)

One of the more recent High Times mags had an article on tissue cloning.  I was wondering if anyone has tried this yet or if you know any more info on it.  I will soon be running some test runs myself.

It's actually pretty easy. The thing is it's slow. Now if you need huge numbers of clones from only one plant it's the way to go.

how slow is it?

I want to try this. If it takes less than 2 months I could see it being really viable for SOG growers who don't want to have a clone room.

It takes pretty close to that 2 months. Even so with a little planning you can still use it  with a sog.

:awesome:

If I had the money I'd totally buy one of those kits and give it a shot, I will need lots and lots of sprouts/small plants ready for next years outdoor season

You have plenty of time to get mother plants going.

You don't need to buy a kit if you know how to work with agar/sterile mediums.

I want to look into it further. I wonder what is the determinate factor for creating one plant with a root system. I assume a single leaf could be ripped into hundreds of bits and each bit could be turned into a single plant. Making this extremely user friendly and not having like a million tiny sprouts that are unworkable close together would be key.

I imagine if leaf material was used, one could put it into a dropper or pipette and leaf material close enough together could grow into the same plant. I really don't know I'm just making hypotheses.

*Hits google*

That's what I like to see, at heart i'm really just an outdoor grower.  I just love it so much more for some reason, mother nature takes care of her own...

I love how massive they can get outside too!

Yep, it's a pretty awesome deal, making thousands of potential clones from a small plant/part of the plant.  I'd almost rather use this before conventional cuttings IF I had the time...

Yeah u use agar as a medium and u need a glove box (Its real similar to mushroom cloning.) there r 3 main hormones u need to add to the agar. but the trickiest part indefinitely is the sterile work that needs to be done.  If u can do it right, u can have all the plants u need to last you through the year all contained in one small closet.  It doesnt get any more convenient than that.

very interesting.  I've got 500 petri dishes in the other room that have needed some action for a while now.

Nice link magash. I had never heard of this method of cloning until reading this post. I didn't have time to read the entire article but I plan to when I get outta work.

Hey Shamemaker:

Do you plan on documenting your tissue cloning "test run" in a grow log here at the growery?
I hope you do. I am very intrigued by this post!  I can't wait to get  home do more research.

Yeah, ill go ahead and keep you updated on my situation and post a thread in the grow journals.  Keep in mind that i'm a small-time closet grower and im starting some new plants within the next week or two. So ill be trying to make a couple of clones for each plant i get going(probably 4-6). But i still need to get the proper growth hormones. Included is a pic of my homemade glove box.  Sterility is the key!
