Transplanting from soil to coco
    #301352 - 10/21/09 03:32 PM (14 years, 5 months ago)

I'm a long time soil grower who recently made the switch to coco. I just wanted to share my methods and results for anyone who might be considering this.

Plants shown are G13 Haze in FF Ocean Forest soil.

You can transplant from soil to coco without breaking apart the rootball. Some think that it helps to remove as much soil as possible, but my experience has taught me never to disturb roots like that.

The plants will be shocked for about 24-48 hours and you will see stress indicators and yellowing.

They will begin recovering slowly at first, but it speeds with each passing day.

Now healed and full of vigor, shown during the initial stretch of flowering.

Fully healthy and just about done stretching, these are ready put on some weight and bring home the bud.

30 days into flowering.

Nice pictorial.
May I ask why you chose to switch to a soil-less medium?

1) Stealthy - Not having to buy/haul/dispose soil all of the time is easier on me mentally (paranoia) and physically.

2) Aeration - I usually have to water every day in coir as opposed to every 2-3 days in soil. That forces me to spend more time with and be more attentive to the plants, nothing ever gets by me now.

3) Clean - Little things like being able to siphon water out of a drain tray with a nutrient syringe and not have it clog. No more dirt inside and on my hands.

Fair enough.
I was just curious.
I'm switching to a new soil method, but I don't see myself ever switching away from soil.
I just like the flavors, and the methods, and honestly, handling good rich compost.

Here is an update @ exactly 30 days flowering. There are three G13 Haze in 2.5 gal pots, 60/40 coco/perlite, all topped 5 days before flowering.  (Disregard the seedlings and small plant off to the right)

Coco is making one hell of a first impression on me. I regret not making the switch sooner, this will be a banner harvest.
