Home Depot Nutes?
    #225993 - 05/13/09 04:48 PM (14 years, 10 months ago)

I walked around Home Depot with a few soil recipes. I realized they don't carry a number of things like wormcastings, bonemeal, bloodmeal, and other recommended additivies.

Imagine being a first time grower who just wants to try growing. Nothing serious no 1000 plant plots. What brands would you buy and what would you buy? You don't want to just plant seeds in the ground but you aren't looking to go to a hydro store to pickup rare/more expensive nutes.

Any advice? Thx guys. If there is another thread about tried and true Brands link me and i will read.

It's not necissary to have all those additives.  Good soils like Black Gold already have worm castings in them.  It's perfectly fine to grow using only a good soil.  It would probably be beneficial to atleast mix in some perlite for better areation/filtration though, not to mention make your soil stretch a bit further.

If you insist on using local products consider a soiless mix. 1 part peat, 1 part verm, 1 part perlite. You will need to add dolomitic lime as a pH buffer. Of course its inert, so the 3 part General Hydroponics Flora series would be a good choice.

well first of all they DO carry bonemeal and bloodmeal. Guaranteed.

Secondly, they carry the "Alaska Fish Fertilizer" brand, and that is a wonderful organic tea that your plants will love.

Spend a little more time looking at EVERYTHING on the shelf and you'll be surprised what you can find. I even got some superthrive and rooting hormone there.

Mine doesn't. They get either or in time to time but it's not stocked regularly at all.

If you can find it near you, I have had great luck with the Technaflora Recipe for Success Starter Kit. It usually goes for around $30, and comes with veg and flower food, root enhancer, and cloning gel. Best bang for the buck from what I found.

that's cause you're canoodlian. Home Depot views its stores in other countries as competitors.

It's seriously the most mismanaged company ever

True that. I used to do outdoor garden plant sales through them and a local nursery and they are just beyond incompetent. Trying to get anything done with them was a nightmare as none of them had any real idea what they were doing or had any common sense whatsoever.

Yes, by the way Mr. Home Depot garden associate, you do in fact have to water those plants for them to stay alive.
