how do i do this ebb & flow buisseness?
    #198744 - 02/22/09 02:02 PM (15 years, 28 days ago)

ive been in dirt for the last few years, but i just got my first hydro set up. im lost!

im going to be (hopefully) getting some ak 47 cuttings and will be plotting them in hydroton. the people at the hydro store told me to only water once ever couple of days for fresh cuttings and then to slowly start increasing the number of waterings. how do i know how to go about it? should i look for wilting? also, i dont have an ec meter. how do i know how much fert to use?

thanx all

you buy an ec/pph reader.  I wouldn't wing it when it comes to your nutes.  The only way to know is to measure it.  As for the frequency and duration of your floods I am not too sure.  Sorry.  I've done a drip system once and that's my experience with hydro.

Want it easy for ya. 12.5 mils per gallon with a ph of 6 to 6.5. Flood every 2 to 3 hrs (with the lights on. Myself I like every 2 hrs) Every 3 to 4 hrs (With the lights off. Myself every 3 hrs.

I guarantee with that mix you'll get good results. No meter needed. The nutes are organic so meters don't work with em anyway. Once ya get the hang of it you can start getting into meters and stuff like that.

I usually dont use any fert while cloning and have had 90% success rate. I aslo dont water the cubes, I insert small wicks of cotton or some other material to wick water from below the cubes and spray when neccessary. they seem to do fine. As far as watering goes, know your plants. After a while of doing it you will have an eye for what ails. Only after the clones have well established roots do I start the nutes.

if its gh flora (not floranova) just use micro and bloom and do lucas formula.

and are you saying cuttings as in unrooted? i dont think they will survive what you're talking about with watering every couple days in hydroton on a table....
