yeah, formatting.
but you have to spend the time to find out who makes your video card, network card, sound chipset and anything else windows might not pick up on it's own.
it's actually pretty easy and if you want i'd be happy to walk ya through it.
i do it to every computer I buy (assuming I dont build).
final advice: stay away from compaq, read internet reviews of models your looking at and there is no reason to break more than $700 to get what you want.

I've got an HP. I just bought Acers for my kids. I've had about every kind you can think of probably. Gateways are user friendly ime.
I buy most of my computers and related from Tiger Direct but your choice will depend on the level of customer service you expect vs price. I expect absolutely none, buyer beware, get what you pay for you hope at best. lol

I didn't answer that because I really don't know except as applies to me but I did offer a bit of advice that is worth paying attention to.

Add to that, You may want better warranties and customer support team type shit.
In the differences between the ways are the key factors influencing where you should buy.

I've heard a lot of good about them but never tried em out yet. I've been doing business with Tiger Direct for many years and now they have two retail stores near me too. About the only thing I can say for them is you get what pay for but at least you never pay too much for it.
