Hey all:
Is lumens the only thing you should consider for growth when buying a light? I am deciding between a fluoro and a HPS (both are 150w). The HPS puts out 16k lumens. Is this enough to grow? How will buds turn out? Space is 2x4
I know you should consider electricity usage, heat issues, things like that, but does HPS have just plain better light than a fluoro?

Ive been told hps will veg better than a flouro and flowering is a given (due to the spectrum). Also they said that vegging under an hps could take longer to sex the plant because its already used to the orange spectrum. Something I thought about for conserving energy is the CFLs for veg and hps for flowering (This way your hps are only on 12/12 instead of 18/6, 24/7). If you were to choose one light, im still a newb and havent grown but I think people will say go with the hps. I cant really answer your questions but this may be a little useful.

you said your space is 2'x4'?
2'square x 4'H?
if this is the case, your 150w hps is plenty. cuz more than likely youll only do one plant.
but a 150 flouro kicks ass too.
either way theyre both 150w. the advantage of the hps could be fuller buds, the advantage of the flouro is less heat. you could probably get away with using the flouro with no cooling system, with the hps youll need it...
