How do you accumulate "points"?
Cause I less than someone who is at a lower level than me.

points are earned from pretty much everything. Every building upgrade earns you points, as well as gold reserves, military strength, and research.

bump, how is everyone doing in the game? still enjoying it?
Im just finishing up my 5 towns to where I want them to be (2 of them are 100% complete), then I will be working towards that highly coveted 6th town.
Once I get my new town I will be able to help you guys out a lot more!

I'm up to 3 colonies with 0% corruption. I have been pillaging like mad and have accumulated lots of gold and supplies. Funny story, some guy attacked my newest colony twice, I promptly built an army, crushed his, and pillaged his main town and his colonies 6 times each. He sent me a message saying "please stop attacking me, I will never attack you again, please". Oh god I'm evil...
I'm up to ~2500 points, not too shabby.

I still just have my two towns, I've been pillaging quite a bit, and I'm focusing on making them really solid before I start another colony.
Nobody buys from my trade post, nor can I find anyone within a 4 island radius to buy from!

wine. That is what my next island will be. Wine is critical to growth of your towns. A solid supply of wine insures that you can keep expanding your towns

that is a smart move! its very smart to get each town solid before you spread yourself too thin
make sure you guys build an academy at each new colony and work on research. Research brings in CRRRRAZY amount of points

Okay...I just did something stupid.
I attacked a level 12 town...but I sent in a spy first, and this town's army is way weaker than mine.
But he has 2 other level 12 towns also. I've got over 2 days to stockpile sulphur/crystal and upgrade my army and wall to the max before the anticipated retaliation happens (my troops won't arrive for a day), so I hope I can take care of myself.

Yeah choose your battles well and do not attack players who are in alliances, that will get you fucked also.
Worst case scenario you lose all your troops and start losing resources. they cant actually damage your town
