I have been picking town sizes 10-18 that have a 0 score for generals (its an option in the high score page when you find their name). A zero means somebody already came and destroyed their army. It's been working out for me, I usually come home with between 5k-30k gold 500-1.2k building and ~500 of whatever resource their island is. All of this while incurring very few losses of troops (pillaged ~10 towns lost 3 swordsmen). Also, if you send like 3 troops on the first wave and wait a minute to send a second wave then wait another minute to send a third wave, you are able to pillage them three times in rapid succession. Just make sure you don't attack someone more then 6 times in a 24 hour period as its against the rules.

anyone want to trade? i need marble. either 500 or 1000... really doesn't matter. however much you've got. i'll trade 1:1 or we can work out a deal. i have a lot of crystal glass.
i need it to expand my governor`s residence in one colony and build one in another. need to do it quick to keep corruption down and keep them happy. plus i'm at a standstill until my marble colony starts growing.

my marble colony has 60% corruption, and my wine colony has like 30%. i hate waiting.
about to build a tavern on my marble colony so i can increase satisfaction and get more people in the town so i can produce more marble... waiting for my first level governors residence to be finished. then i gotta upgrade them on both which will cost me like 11,000 wood and 1,100 marble 
also i've pretty much built up everything on my capital and wine colony where i need marble for everything. it's just a waiting game from here on out it seems. i guess i'll start an army on my marble colony and pillage some fools in the meantime.
