Do people use a soxhlet to extract thc (+other stuff) from leaves and flowers, and is it better than my current extraction? * 1

Hi I'm new here. Hi! I'm more familiair on shroomery actually...

I want to know whether and how people use a soxhlet to extract thc (+other stuff) from leaves and flowers, and is it better than my current extraction method?

The current technique I know is putting it in glass tube with hole on the bottom, add 150ml of 97% alcohol to it, let it drip, evaporate the alcohol, combine the residue with oil. I want to know whether it makes any sense to change that process with soxhlet (?)

If you’re just making RSO, you can soak the material in a jar then filter, no need for a fancy tube.  The bigger problem with this method is etoh recovery, which can be accomplished with anything from a simple still to an expensive ass source turbo or similar device.

Thanks! Exactly the info I needed! I didn't know the term RSO, but that Rick Simpson Oil is what I made, yes

I calculate I now evaporate about 5 euros of alcohol per made 10ml thc/cbd bottle, and it takes about an hour to evaporate and the alcohol flies off via the kitchen hood.

To save on costs and reuse the alcohol; would it make any economical and timesaving sense to buy a device like this one (where I then put the pyrex glass in) (that costs around 100 euros)? (assuming I will make about 50 bottles of 10ml):

I guess it depends on how much you make.  I’ve heard mixed reviews on using water distillers for alcohol, but I imagine the ones built for alcohol are a bit more expensive.  The pros use rotovaps, but that’s more for bulk production.

Thanks.

I'll do a search on making DIY distiller to get the alcohol back.

I’ve found that products like thcv distillate make it easier to experiment with new formulas without jumping through hoops each time. The lab testing and steady quality help a lot if you’re planning tinctures or vape lines and don’t want any surprises down the road. The pricing range also gives some wiggle room depending on how big a batch you’re cooking up.

Consider using a simple still for alcohol recovery. You could also try making a DIY distiller for reclaiming alcohol, which can be a cost-effective solution.
